r McHENRY S A V I N G S • iim illldtiiia mi Sm Set Catholic Schools Week The McHenry County Board of Catholic Education and the eight Catholic schools of McHenry county are observing Catholic Schools week Feb. 4 - 10. The McHenry area joins the national Catholic Schools week observance by the National Catholic Education association. The theme of the celebration is "Next to the Family, the Catholic School." In commenting on the theme of this year's Catholic Schools week celebration, Father Karl Ganss, area superintendent, pointed out the historical role of ^non-public schools in rein forcing family religious and moral values. Catholic schools, as an extension of the home, provide an education per meated with love, discipline, identity, and stability. In addition, Father Ganss said they foster a community atmosphere where students, parents, teachers and ad- minsitrators all learn together to put Gospel values into practice. In the current year, McHenry County's eight Catholic schools are serving the area's families by educating 2,760 children. The McHenry County Board of Catholic Education serves the teaching mission of the church through' seven elementary schools, including St.. John the Baptist, John- sburg; Montini Middle and Primary,. McHenry. One Catholic secondary school is Marian Central Catholic high school, Woodstock, which serves all parishes of the county. The area board also sponsors programs of C.C.D. (Con fraternity of Christian Doc trine), Teacher Training, Family Religious Education Program, and SPRED (Special Religious Education for the Retarded). The McHenry County Board of Catholic Education is part of the Rock- ford Diocesan Catholic Education system. PAGE 3-PLAINDEALER -FRIDAY.
