Is snow a danger to aircrat? If you are a frequent or infrequent passetger, or a pilot, who takes to the air for travel, it's well to k»ow a little about icing conditions and how they affect aircra't. Most modern airliners hive ade quate de-icers so tint worry here is unnecessary. Private planes whiih don't have de-icers, and some larger ones not equipped ffr icing conditions, should stay dear of heavy icing. Even if the air is smooth, freezing rain which clings to the wing, and some times to prop, will cause «loss of power and lift. A heavy frost on an aircraft's wing reduces itt lift tremendously; therefore pilots will always wipe the wing clean before take-off. An ice build-up reduces the airfoil's efficiency to such an extent that serious danger can resiit. Snow is usually not dan gerous, though wet snow can cling to the wing and cause trouble. A good rule is to stay out of private craft, especially single-engine planes, in such weather.
