The Family Safety Day program of demonstrations, talks, and discussions will be held in building D on the McHenry county Fairgrounds. This full program will include the first session of the 4-H tractor driving certification school conducted by the Extension service for 12 to 14 year-olds. Mrs. Martin said the program begins at 10 a.gn. and will continue at 3 p.m. The growing number of garden tractors, riding, mowers, snow blowers and snow plows that require care in operation prompts the co- sponsors to urge city families to attend. Children are invited to take part and watch some to the demonstrations. John Scott, safety specialist with the Country Companies, will be one of the speakers. He'll show some of the safety devices such as ear muffs to protect the ears of persons operating tractors or other noisy equipment, safety helmets and goggles. Another speaker will be Ordie Hogsett, veteran Extension Service safety specialis dramatically remembered- because Ordie speaks from firsthand experience about safety. Years ago he lost both hands in a corn picker accident. All dancers must have a minimum of $3 per hour in pledges in order to register. However, the more money a dancer has in pledges, the greater that person's chances are for winning a top prize. The top ten prizes were donated by merchants or Easter Seal staff members, including a stereo system and a portable TV. In addition to the top ten prizes, all participants will be eligible to compete for hourly prizes. In the event that the dance marathon raises $15,000 or more, the top money-raiser will also win an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles to appear on the Easter Seal Telethon with Jack Klugman and an array of Hollywood stars. At last year's Dance-A-Thon, 180 dancers raised $16,700 for handicapped children and adults in McHenry county. Karen Gunderson of Wonder Lake was the top money raiser and appeared, along with other dance marathon winners from all parts of the United States, on the 1978 Telethon. Nutritious meals will be served starting with Saturday lunch and ending with Sunday breakfast, and rest breaks will be scheduled throughout the 24- hour event.
