Bruce Waddell (R-Dundee) has said that the state of Illinois will be able to fully meet its financial pledge to area county fairs funded through the Fair and Ex position fund in the coming fiscal year. Rep. Waddell said county fair administrators "should be assured that the level of fun ding provided by the state will not be reduced or modified. Local fairs should be en couraged to learn that they can develop plans for construction or improvements without worry that the budget picture will change in the middle of the projects." Waddell explained that the state provides monetary support for most of the state's county fairs through a program of state grants. But certain major county fairs are given state financial support through a separate Fair and Exposition fund. That fund is composed of a portion of state proceeds from race track operations across the state. Rep. Waddell said the Fair and Exposition fund is used to support county fairs in McHenry, Kane, DuPage and Winnebago counties in the northern portion of the state. Mrs. Caron will be conducting the meeting, and hopes that this will be the only one that she has to conduct by herself. In addition to teens, the soon-to-be-formed club needs parental help, too. Several years ago there was a teen club in the village, and leftover funds have been kept over the years, so that there is some money to give the new group a fine start. Some of the types of activities that the teen club might be holding would be bowling, pizza parties, fund raisers, tobogganing, possibly disco- ing, and the like. If you are at all interested, gather up your friends and attend the March 14 meeting. If sufficient interest is not shown, the idea will be scrapped, and the leftover funds will be given to the village board. CELEBRATION. When little Thomas Egan Farrell was baptized at St. Pat's church on Feb. 11, the event was cause for great celebration. After the ceremony, at which Tommy was the only baby who creid, the family proceeded to Tommy's grandparent's house and spent the afternoon en joying a lovely buffet. Special guests were Tommy's god parents, Lynn Sterka of Johnsburg, and Mark Farrell of Cary. Tommy received many lovely gifts, including a beautiful handmade afghan from his godmother. As the winter of *79 has heaped layers of snow on the roofs of homes, many con sumers fere wondering whether their insurance covers them for their roofs collapsing under the weight of snow and ice. The Insurance Information institute points out there are policies which cover collapse from snow and ice, but con sumers should check their policies to see if they are covered. Most homeowners are in sured by what is called a "homeowners' policy." The homeowners policy is a package policy that contains a number of types of coverages. The consumer can choose the package that best fits his needs. Naturally, the more coverages the consumer buys, the higher the price of the package. Of the five basic policies, three include collapse coverages. Those three types are the "HO-2", "HO-3" and "HO-5". Even if they aren't worried about their roof collapsing, it is always a good idea for con sumers to check their policy and make sure they have all the coverage they want or need. The institute gives the following explanation of the five policies: 1) Fire and Extended Coverage - The least expensive form, because it is the most basic, is the fire and extended coverage policy. It covers losses from fire and lightning, windstorm and hail, explosion, riot and damage from aircraft or motor vehicles hitting the house. This form does not cover theft, collapse, or liability. 2) Homeowners-1 (HO-1) The HO-1 includes all the coverage listed above plus insurance for vandalism, theft, glass breakage, liability and limited medical expenses for people other than the resident who may be injured on the property. There is no coverage for collapse of the home, including collapse from the weight of snow. 3) HO-2~This covers a wider range of perils (things which can cause a loss). It includes coverage for collapse of the building, so is the most basic policy that will cover the homeowner for collapse due to the weight of ice, snow or sleet.. It also includes coverage for damage due to malfunctions of the heating or air-conditioning systems or plumbing. Another important coverage provided, especially for the winter, is damage caused by the freezing of plumbing, heating or air- conditioning systems. Finally, it also covers injury to ap pliances from sudden electrical surges or cut-offs. 4) HO-3--The previously explained policies name the perils which are covered. This policy states "all perils", are covered, with a few named exceptions. The exceptions are flood, war, nuclear attack and earthquakes. The consumer can get earthquake coverage in. this policy if he or she asks specifically to have it added, and pays for the extra coverage. Consumers should note, however, that the "all peril" coverage applies only to the building. Contents are only covered for damage from the perils n?med in the HO-2. 5) HO-5--this policy gives "all peril" coverage for the buildings and contents. Again, there are named exceptions-the same as in the HO-3. There are two other "HO" forms, the HO-4 and the HO-6. The HO-4 is a renters' policy and the HO-6 is for con dominium owners. These two policies cover the same causes of damage as the HO-2, but cover only the con tents, or possessions of the consumer. The policies provide liability coverage, medical payments to persons other than the resident who are injured on the property and additional living expenses in case the apartment or condominium is damaged to the point the consumer has to live somewhere else while the residence is being repaired.
