FREDERICK They were among 89 of Baxter's research - and development staff members from throughout the country who were honored. Fifty-three people have achieved in ventions that led to 67 patents in 15 months, and 36 have made o u t s t a n d i n g t e c h n i c a l H. J. WURGLER achievements in medical products and processes. Baxter presented the awards as part of its ongoing research and development incentive program. The corporation ranked 275th in sales among the Fortune 500 in 1977 while it ranked 150th among all the THOMAS A. FOWLES companies in the world that received U.S. patents. In presenting the awards, Williarin B. Graham, the company's chairman of the board and chief executive of ficer, cited the winners as representing "the leading edge of the company", and com- DWIGHT DIXON mended them for helping to improve "the way people live around the world". Daniel Baldino, formerly of McHenry, a member of the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) board of directors, will speak on "The RTA-Its Future?" Baldino represents suburban Cook county on the RTA board. One of its original members,he was first appointed in 1974 and reappointed in 1976 to serve a five-year term. He is chairman of the board's Compensation and Employee Welfare committee and the Finance and Audit and Security committees. Currently director of cor porate relations for CNA In surance, he served as assistant to the president of the Illinois State Senate prior to his ap pointment to the RTA board. From 1968 to 1973, he was director of public and legislative affairs for the Civic Federation of Chicago, a watchdog organization founded by Chicago businessmen. Nl-Gas In Annual Energy Poster Contest Entries are now being ac cepted for the tenth annual Northern Illinois Gas energy poster contest. The contest is open to third, fourth and fifth grade students in any of the nearly 2,200 elementary schools in NI-Gas' service territory. Students are invited to create posters illustrating their ideas on "What does natural gas supply do for me and my family?" The gas company seeks children's impressions each year in an effort to introduce them to the world of natural gas energy. Entries are due in local Ni- Gas operating offices by Friday, April 13. Judging is based on creativity, orginality, message and neatness. One third, fourth and fifth grade entry is eligible per school. Over 3,000 posters are judged each year. Semifinalists receive monetary awards, while the winner receives a 10-speed bicycle in addition to money. Trophies and prizes will be presented during an awards banquet on May 1, featuring the winner and 12 semi-finalists, their parents, teachers and prin cipals.
