A dog has a natural instinct for understanding the need. When a small dog was brought in to the home of a crippled woman who gets in and out of chairs with difficulty and who walks with labored effort, the animal recognized the situation immediately and carefully This darling spayed female, Mack and white semi long hair has a sweet disposition and would love to be a house cat curled in your lap. Photo Credit: Don Kaiser ByEstelleAtwell There are as many variations on the human pet relationship as the differences found in lifestyles, temperaments and households. One of the most fulfilling is the day-in day-out constant companionship when it is possible for the owner to be with the pet a majority of time. This satisfying relationship builds a great degree of mutual understanding. The dog knows the person, the person knows the dog, and both enjoy this rapport. Insight about the owner's habits and domain come quickly to the pet. The small puppy adapts to new surroundings almost im mediately. When a six week old puppy finds herself in a home with two levels and stairs to reach them (something she has never seen before), she bravely attempts to follow her owner on the steep climb or descent even if she falls in the effort. As time goes on and they get to know each other well, a slight word is all that is necessary for the green light GO. And when the negative word comes that this time she must stay home, she takes to her corner bed in resignation at her fate, showing her dejection in her determined head-down pose. The pet develops both a vocabulary of meanings and a collection of names. "Aunt Mary is coming to dinner," results in an immediate move to the widow and watchful waiting until Aunt Mary arrives and is greeted en thusiastically, "Where's your Porky", and she's off to her basket of assorted toys rightly iden tifying and bringing the one she knows as 'Porky' - a rubber quilly creature. Or, "where's your chewy bone," and she produces the rawhide piece she associates with 'chewy bone'. There'8 a definite memory factor too. A dog may drop a bone or toy to pursue another interest. But she hasn't forgotten where she laid it. If the object is removed from the place she conducts an obvious search until she finds it. Alexander Executive Vice President A merican Bankers Association In today's mobile society it is the unusual family that isn't faced at least once or more with the challenge of uprooting itself -- lock, stock, barrel and bank account -- and establishing new ties in a strange town or city where family members may be completely unknown. it right away. Time is their worst enemy. Lost Dogs: Black Lab, curly hair, one year with choke collar and rabies tag. 385-0028. Among all of the other adjustments and arrangements that must be made, many families have found to their chagrin that they have failed to provide for the necessary cash to get through the trau matic first two weeks. Or that the funds represented by the cashier's check they thought would meet their needs were not available to them until the paying bank actually transferred the cash, which could take as long as 10 days. The forced delay in use of one's funds often comes as a shock to bank customers who have come to think of checks -- both personal and cashier's -- as near cash. In truth, neither has any cash value until the funds repre sented are collected. And, in actual fact, a cashier's check is just about as easy to counterfeit as a personal check. While it is true that the check-collection process has been speeded up in recent years through the use of high speed check-sorting equip ment and computers, checks returned for insufficient funds must still be handled manually and forwarded back to the endorsing bank -- usually through U.S. mails. In addition, because there is currently no universal or risk-free means of identifi cation available in this coun try, banks will frequently require a "satisfactory" ac count relationship over a period of time (could be 30-90 days) as a means of establishing customer iden tification. Another delay. Can anything be done to speed up the process? Yes, here are some tips to consider: * Before closing your pre sent account, sit down and talk to an officer in your bank, explain that you are about to leave the area, and where you are going, and ask for advice. * If you are. personally known by the banker, or your account relationship is evident on paper, you can request a letter of recommendation with an invitation to the banker in your new home-. town to call direct to verify any of the facts. * Your current banker will probably recommend enough cash in travelers checks to cover immediate needs and to establish a new account balance whe?fevyou,re going. Meanwhile, your pre sent account will remain open until all outstanding checks have cleared (usually 14 days). * Once all checks ha\ come in, the remainder of . your old account balance can simply be wired to your • new bank and credited tr your account. It takes a little advam. planning, and coordinate • with your banker, but you funds can be there -- wht.. you are. ^ SSSferrjfc American Legion Post 491 - RINGW00D ROAD, McHENRY - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FISH FRY EVERY FRIDAY 15:00 - 9:00 P.M.) •PERCH-ALI/YOU CAN EAT •OTHER MENU AVAILABLE BOB & BLUE TONES t MOV -- COCKTAII.
