Anthony were alive today what would she think of the progress made by women in recent years? That is one of the questions that will be answered at McHenry County College's Women's Day, when Barbara Rowe, an Elmhurst resident who began portraying Susan B. Anthony a year ago, will be the featured speaker at the lun cheon Saturday, March 24. Ms. Rowe explains that she put together the portrayal of Susan B. Anthony for a League of Women Voters candidates night a year ago. Using research done by another league member, Elizabeth Riotto, she created a charac terization set in the 1890's when Ms. Anthony was in her eighties. The protrayal has the suf fragette remembering her life, as well as looking at the progress women have made since her death. Barbara Rowe, who is married and the mother of three grown sons, got in terested in speech and drama when she enrolled in the college of DuPage ten years ago along with her oldest son. After completing work on her A.A. Degree, she spent two more years "taking every drama course offered" and then got into doing community theatre. She is currently involved in teaching yoga as well as in performing her charac terization for audiences in the Chicago area. Her presentation will be only one part of the Women's Day activities at MCC, which will include a spring luncheon, a sampling of workshops on topics from going back to school to surviving your child's adolescence, and a chance to tour the MCC campus. This is the second year the college has held a women's day to bring women in surrounding communities together on a Saturday to learn about MCC's services and to share ideas. There is no charge to attend the day but there is a fee for the luncheon. You are also free to attend and bring your own lunch. In order to schedule the day, MCC asks you to register by calling 455-3700, extension 260. Newcomers Schedule Full Spring Calendar Despite falling temperatures, members of the Town and Country Newcomers club met recently for the March general meeting at St. Paul's Episcopal church in McHenry to discuss a full calendar of upcoming events. President Shari Weakman greeted members and guests, and introduced Mary Kay Messling from the Family Service and Mental Health center for MjcHenry county. Ms. Messling-gave an excellent talk on assertiveness. At the ; conclusion of the program A Mrs. Weakman reopened the business meeting. Jill Leonard and Jan Sullivan will share the duties of hostessing this morning get- acquainted session. Babysit ting is available at a nominal fee. Nancy John announced that the couples' bowling night will take place Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at the Fox Lake Bowl. Those club members who have not yet signed up should contact Mrs. John before March 30 about reservations and fees. A children's Easter party, "Donuts With the Easter Bunny" has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Faith Presbyterian church. Games and prizes will be provided for the children. Those wishing to attend should call Mrs. Bisiewicz or Kathy Kucik. Mrs. Weakinan then asked for the nominating committee's slate of officers to be voted on at the April general meeting. Mrs. Weakman also explained that nominations would be accepted from the floor at that time. Members present voted to continue meetings during the months of July and August. Also voted on was a change in the bylaws making the voting in April separate balloting for each office. Finally, the club members voted to temporarily fund the printing and distribution of a monthly newsletter. New business included a discussion of the upcoming League of Women Voter- sponsored open forum on McHenry park planning on Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. at city hall. Judy Grenier asked that anyone interested in a Women's Information day at MCC should contact her before March 24.
