McCullom Li • Mary Jo Farrell 344-1575 McCullom Lake Teen Club Has Bowling Outing At the second meeting of the new McCullom Lake Teen club, which was held on Wednesday, March 21, officers were elected to terms of one year. Laura Huff is the new president; Jeff Major ^ is vice-president; secretary, Sherry Scarbrough; and treasurer, Jay Caron. Twenty-five teens attended the first outing of the club, a bowling day. Chaperones in­ cluded Barb Caron, Sandy Keith, and Jim and Marsha Klapperich. The club could not function and keep going without this much appreciated adult support, and parents of all the young people can be grateful that these folks care about their kids! The next meeting of the club will be on Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the beach house. Don't forget your dues! BEACH GALS As each new spring comes in, the Beach Gals get busier. Plans for the Easter penny carnival, egg hunt, and Little Miss McCullom contest are just about completed. Candidates may still enter the contest by stopping by Joan Bitterman's house (next door to the grocery store) with their moms or dads. Entries close April 9. Rehearsal will take place on Monday, April 9 at 7 p.m., and dress rehearsal with preliminary judging will be on Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. Contestants must attend both these sessions in addition to the final judging at 11 a.m. on April 14. Little sprouts are shooting up all over the place for our plant and bake sale, to be held on Saturday, May 12, at the beach house. There will again be soil at the Beach Gals meeting on Wednesday, April 4. The meeting will be commencing at an earlier time, 7 p.m., because of the speaker who is expected at 8 p.m., so please try to be prompt. The meeting will start with or without you, and I know you don't want to miss a moment. Blank paper of any kind, or even paper with one blank side, is needed by the Easter com­ mittee, so if you have any, please bring it along to the meeting. BOY'S BASEBALL Attention all parents, with boys ages 8 to 12, who are in­ terested in having their sons play little league baseball. In order to have a little league this year, there has to be an organization, including parents, managers, coaches, and other concerned people. Therefore, a meeting will be held on Sunday, April 8, at 1:30 p.m., at the beach house in order to find out if little league is going to be possible this year. Without parent participation, there is no way boys' little league will be possible. Parents, please attend this meeting and get things rolling for your boys. CELEBRATION Harriet McNamara had a very special birthday, number eighty-six, on March 29, and celebrated with a surprise visit from Barb Reiter and Katie Stastny and Ann Shermach on March 28. The ladies came laden with flowers, a plant, and a beautiful cake complete with candles. Mrs. McNamara also reports that she heard from lots of her friends on her birthday by mail and by phone, and was planning to continue her celebrating into the weekend. In addition to her birthday, Mrs. McNamara is also celebrating another an­ niversary: ten years ago she agreed to be the Sunshine Lady for the Ladies of the Lake for a one year period, and still has the job today! All of you who know Mrs. "Mac" know why that is. She has plenty of "sunshine" to go around! The date is April 5 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Borrowers are always optimists. Village Eyes Rising Waters Flooding in the area is still the major concern in Sun­ nyside. With waters above the flood stage, many homes along the Fox river are already surrounded by water. Of course, the surrounding areas of Pistakee Highlands, Pistakee Terrace and Sun­ nyside Beach also have many houses in danger. The in­ creased threat of rain adds to the already flood swollen river and lakes of the area. The American Red Cross sent an Emergency Disaster team into the area to view the situation this past week. The local chapter of the Red Cross is now trying to determine if an emergency shelter should be set up for the area in the event homes in the area may have to be evacuated. Those of you who have flooded yards and have your own water wells should con­ sider boiling your drinking water. An area a block long on Sunnyside Beach drive has already been told not to drink their water at all. Sunnyside Police and ESDA are keeping a careful watch on the water level and the homes affected by the water level. Should it become necessary, they are prepared to evacuate people from their homes if the water continues to rise. POLICE NOTES The Sunnyside police department, under Sgt. Donna Mitchell, has come a long way in the last several months. The threat of spring rains and additional flooding to the area has added to its job. The police department is carefully wat­ ching the homes endangered by the flood. The flood swollen Fox river has set some boats adrift from their moorings. The Sunnyside police have a pontoon boat that was adrift in the bay area of the village. After securing the boat, the department later went and pulled it from the water to keep children from playing on it. We don't want any of our children falling in the water and perhaps drowning in the fast flowing currer.l. The police are chasing children who are playing in the flooded beach area and on the public pier. It is so easy with the areas being flooded to step off into the deep water and be swept away by the fast flow of water. Parents, keep your children away from these areas. The police department has a full time job now without worrying about some child falling into the water. If you have lost a blue pon­ toon boat with an outdated boat license, please contact Sgt.
