Tvaroh will show the equipment required and the basic technique of his wood carvings and sculptures. He will display many of his beautiful wood sculptures of small animals, birds and fish which are highly polished and carved in mahogany, cherry, and walnut. Tvaroh, a self-taught carver, started with whittling and gradually worked into carving and sculpture in walnut. Since THOUGHT FOR FOOD By GOULD CROOK his youth, his love of wood and the beauty of its grain structure has kept him- involved in wood working projects and to this day most of his carvings show a lot of grain and an avoidance of polychrome techniques. As the outdoors and wildlife was a way of life with him, it is only natural that he started whit­ tling wildlife figures in the round. Tvoroh is currently vice- president of the Chain-O-Lakes Wood Chippers, a Carving club meetingln Antioch. Everyone is invited to attend this interesting Northland Area Art league lecture. Yankee Pot Roast 4 pounds boneless brisket, chuck or round 2 peppercorns, crushed 1 bay leaf 1/4 teaspoon thyme 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/4 cup shortening 2 cups tomatoes, peeled and mashed 2 tablespoons tomato paste 1 cup beef bouillon 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup dry red wine 1 clove garlic, crushed Make a marinade of the wine, lemon juice, peppercorns, bay leaf, garlic and thyme, and let the meat stand in this overnight in the refrigerator. Turn it a time or two. Next day, sear the meat in a large pot in the hot shortening, turning it to brown both sides. Remove meat from pot and put in the marinade along with t o m a t o e s , w h i c h y o u ' v e mashed, the tomato paste and the bouillon. Mix and bring to a boil. Put the meat back in the pot, add the salt, cover and reduce the heat so the sauce simmers. Cook it for about three hours, adding more liquid if necessary. This serves six to eight and is a fine dish for company. Ac­ company this delicious roast w i t h c o o k e d s m a l l w h o l e potatoes, carrots and peas.
