I knew my paycheck was going to be short because my boss and I had received mail from the store where I had an account. I don't object to my boss taking from my paycheck because I did miss making some payments, but my payments were only $20 a month and he's taking $30 a week. Can my boss take more than $20 a month? Yes. Your employer can deduct (1) 15 percent of your gross wages per week or (2) disposable wages, per week (gross wages minus deductions required by law) in excess of thirty times the Federal minimum hourly wage, whichever is less. These deductions are legal for thir|y days provided (1) your payments were at least forty days overdue (2) you and your employer were notified at least twenty days in advance, (3) a correct statement of the amount you were overdue and a copy of the wage assignment you signed is sent to your employer, and (4) you did not notify the creditor and your employer, in writing and under oath, of any defenses you had to the wage assignment. Usually, the amount deducted will not relate to the amount of your monthly payments. 2. Recently, the warehousemen at the plant where 1 work went on strike and set up a picket line at the plant entrance. The members of the union local I belong to decided to honor the picket line. If we honor the picket line of another union working in the same plant, are we eligible for unemployment insurance benefits? Any individual who honors the picket line of another union may be eligible for Unem ployment Insurance benefits if (1) the individual is not par ticipating in, financing, or directly interested in the labor dispute that caused the work stoppage and (2) he does not belong to a grade or class of workers who are participating in, financing, or directly in terested in the dispute.
