More and more McHenry citizens are getting involved in saving their materials for recycling Following is a list of some guidelines that may be helpful to old and new recyclers alike: Newspapers-Tie newspapers in both directions in bundles 8 to 10 inches high or place them carefully into strong, brown paper bags. Be sure to remove all plastic bags and wet paper. Cardboard and magazines -- Both are accepted; however, they should be bundled separately from the newspaper since they are sold to different outlets. Glass-Bottles and jars do not have to have lables removed, but the containers should be washed, and all metal and plastic removed. This includes the plastic jackets that are on some soft drink bottles. Bring only clear, green, or brown glass. Cans-All steel cans should be rinsed out, have labels removed, and flattened to conserve space. Please keep all aluminum and all-steel cans separate since they are sold to separate outlets. Aluminum--Only some beverage cans are al l aluminum These are marked "all aluminum" or "recyclable aluminum" on the side, and the sides and bottom of the can will not st ick to a magnet Many beverage cans with steel s ides are now made without a steam at the bottom, giving the ap pearance of an all aluminum can.
