MCHS Varsity Softball Girls Win One, Lose One The Sports The McHenry Girls' Varsity Softball team held off a last inning rally by Cary Grove and won 9-6. The Monday victory was the Warriors fourth win in eight Fox Valley Conference games. Sophomore Sue Haddick and Freshman Pam West were the batting leaders versus Cary Grove. Both had 3 hits with Haddick scoring two runs and driving in two more. Chris Connell added a double and triple, scored a run and picked up an, RBI. Dale Williams slammed a 3-run homer during McHenry's 6-run sixth inning. Pitcher Sue Haddick picked up the victory but Vickie Kopsell, the "Bruce Sutter" of the Warrior pitching staff, put out the 7th inning rally. Kopsell faced a two-out-bases-loaded situation with the tying run on base. She threw one" pitch and caused the batter to ground out to short to end the game. In a ball game played last Saturday the Softball team travelled to Crystal Lake South where they dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker. Sue Haddick again led McHenry batters with three base hits, an RBI and one run scored. Sharon Smith clouted a 3-run homer in the Warrior fourth, scoring Colleen Byrne and Terri Bohlman in front of her. McHenry had one chance to score the tying run in the seventh when Colleen Byrne reached third base after two were out and two had already scored. But she never had a chance as the next batter struck out.
