Goat's milk is used more widely throughout the world than cow's milk. Governor James R. Thomp son urged Illinois fuel con sumers Thursday, particularly motorists, to "respond, but not overreact" to the fact that there will be less fuel available in the next few months than is normally consumed. The governor said he has concluded from discussions with major oil firms serving the state and with a number of Illinois government staff members in the energy field "in the next few months we will have less gasoline, diesel fuel and heating oil available in Illinois than we normally consume". He said his discussions with oil firms and staff indicate about 22 million fewer gallons of gasoline will be available during May than in the month a year ago. Thompson said the gasoline shortage this month will amount to about 3 gallons for every registered car in the state, 45 miles of driving for the month, a mile and a half a day. The governor urged Illinois motorists to recognize that gasoline and other fuels are a national matter, not one con trollable in Illinois alone and he stressed: "Other states cannot take gasoline from Illinois.. .And I will not ask the citizens of Illinois to sacrifice for California. I pledge to you that I will do all within my power to see that the federal government and the oil com panies treat Illinois equitably." rentmnseNMC Thompson outlined four areas of action available to Illinois: ...Voluntary energy con servation, including conscious efforts by individuals, government and business to use less fuel, through strict ob servance of the 55 m.p.h. speed limit, inflating tires to maximum rated pressure, proper vehicle maintenance, moderate acceleration and braking and leaving air con ditioners off. Ride-sharing programs, car-pooling and use of public transportation also can ease the gasoline» shortage situation, Thompson said. Two committees of the Governor's Energy Emergency Contingency council, made up of state agency directors and chairmen, are now completing a set of conservation measures for state government, which will be announced later. The governor urged all local governments in the state to examine their procedures for conservation means. And he cited the gasohol testing being undertaken now by the Illinois Bell Telephone company as an example of the kind of leadership business can take in stretching its use of scarce petroleum fuels. ...Mandatory conservation, if voluntary efforts fail to produce adequate savings. No specific plan is drawn, he said, but he has called a staff meeting in Springfield to in clude representatives of the state's gasoline dealers and oil Ted Anderson, left, George Barker and David Brome will be making a presentation to all newly formed Leisure Age group at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. On Monday, May 21, at 1 p.m. three representatives from the church's building committee, David Brome, George Barker and Ted Anderson, will make a presentation on what is hap pening in the church's plans for future physical growth to meet the needs of the fast growing church.
