SECTION 2 - PAGE 10 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MAY 18,1979 TV Broadcasting At MCC Don Franklin, left, Joe Cornelia, center, and Kay Scolaro of McHenry are taped by a stodent on MCC's audio visual equipment. • MCC PHOTO BY RAYMOND DICKINSON (The following is one in a series written by McHenry area students attending McHenry County college concerning activities at the school. This story is by Kay Scolaro) The stark white backdrop of the studio is a drastic contrast to the three animated people, comfortably seated in front of the cameras. The two co-hosts, Don Franklin and Kay Scolaro, are obviously enjoying their interview with their guest Joe Cornelia, for their questions are sparked with laughter and visible interest. The lights in the studio create intense heat while the director, Joseph Longmeyer, darts back and forth between his cameramen and his monitor control operator, giving directions and establishing shots of his talk show cast. The scene is not a broadcast from one of the Chicago-based levision studios, but in fact, a . oduction at McHenry County ollege by local journalism tudents. The students just >ent four weeks training under e supervision )i Cornelia, the < oordinator of the Educational TV facility of MCC. This in- ierview was their final production. Each week, the students met in the studio and took positions behind cameras or the control monitor. Some students opted to be directors and others enjoyed being in the spotlight in frdnt of the cameras. But each week, the students developed new talents and new insights about the audio-visual equip ment. Those four weeks of training produced confidence in the students and also in Joseph Longmeyer, the journalism instructor. Longmeyer was so impressed with their abilities that he invited Ted Flora, McHenry county's State's attorney, to be interviewed, directed and taped on the third session. The fourth session was the interview of Cornelia and highlighted his involvement with the audio-visual equip ment and also his enjoyment of his position at MCC. Your Police Department j by Officer Jim Fitzgerald | Public Relations Officer McHenry City Police * Phone 385-2131 However, you will find that almost all the stores in town have signs on their doors stating that shoes and shirts are required before entering any store, especially any food store. This is not only a store policy, but it is the law, and any store owner or manager can refuse your entering the store unless you have on shoes and* shirt. Have a nice week, and get out any way you can and enjoy the nice weather. If you need motivation, just remember how bad we all had cabin fever two months ago! That should do it! At the conclusion of this four- week mini-course, the students expressed their approval and enjoyment of the experience. They also learned that Cornelia had offered an adult education course termed "Television Production" in the summer of 1977. Excited by the prospect of being able to learn more about AV equipment, some of the students pressed Cornelia to see if he might offer it again in the near future. Cornelia stated that after completion of some remodeling of the studio, he would enjoy teaching another class, especially if enough students requested it. The conference is being sponsored by St. Joseph chapter of Nairn; one need not be a member of Nairn to attend. All newly widowed men and women, as well as those who have been widowed for a few years are all welcome. Explained A moderate income is one which comes within a moderate distance of covering moderate ex penses. -Globe, Boston. Well, it would seem that Spring, late as it is, is finally here, and I for one am sure glad to see it arrive. Clear skies, warm winds, and that big bright sun in the sky have a tendency to make almost everything seem new and fresh, not to mention the fact that I can now get out and start to work off the extra pounds that I grew over the winter, by water skiing, which is my hobby. There are a lot of other people out these days working off their extra pounds too by riding their bicycles, and just getting out and enjoying the nice weather. For those of you bicycle riders who are interested, the police department will hold a bicycle inspection on Saturday, May 19, between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the East campus parking lot. Why not come on over and have someone check your bicycle for your safety, and at the same time register your bicycle against theft with the police department. You will be given a card to fill out, and a sticker to attach to your bicylce so that if it is ever stolen, it will be easier for us to return it to you when it is found. Also, there are electric pencils available to the public from the police department so that you can mark your bicycle with your driver's license number so that we can have another way of finding out who a found bicycle belongs to. If you don't have a driver's license, you can use your parents license number, or that of a friend. Or, if you have your own special marking system, you can etch it into the frame of the bike, and then >narkvthe system down on the card from the police depart ment so that we can get it back to ybu. I feel that I must remind you all again that it is illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalks in the business districts of the city of McHenry, such as Green street and Riverside drive, in front of the stores. It makes it almost impossible for a person to walk down the sidewalk when there is a bicycle coming at him from the other direction. If you must be on the sidewalk, you will have to walk your bike down the sidewalk. Also, remember to ride your bikes with the traffic when you are on the street, and not against the traffic, and always ride single file when you are on the road. Bicycles must also obey all the traffic laws that apply to motor vehicles when they are on the sponsored by McH«nry Legion Auxiliary Show Nan's Class May 21 roadway, such as stopping for all stop signs and lights, signaling your turns at in tersections, and giving way to people who are walking. Also, for nighttime riding, make sure that your bicycle is well equipped with reflectors and lights, and that you wear light colored clothing when you ride. Dark clothing and an unlit bicycle on the roadway at night is nothing more than an ac cident looking for a place to happen, usually with tragic results. Please exercise care when you are riding your bikes, and live to enjoy it. I am as bad as the next person when it comes to this next little problem, but I think that we should all be aware of the law. Personally, I hate to wear shoes when it is summer because they are usually hot and uncomfortable, and on a warm day, I will usually be the first to take off my shirt. This is fine and good as long as you are at home or are at the ^>each. The American Society for Psychoprophylaxis in Ob stetrics, Inc., invites the public to the showing of Nan's Class Monday, May 21, at 8 p.m. in the dining room of Memorial hospital, Woodstock. In Nan's Class, the viewer is invited to follow a number of parturients who have attended Lamaze classes in Washington, D C. through the latter parts of their pregnancies and into postpartum.
