Pitch, Hit & Run Moves Along Sox-Angels Game May 26 To Aid Shrine Hospital Chicago, 111., May 9, 1979 ~ "Buy a ticket from a Shriner" is the theme of this year!s big benefit baseball game between the California Angels and the Chicago White Sox, Saturday May 26 at Comiskey Park. The annual affair raises funds for the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children at 2211 N. Oak Park Avenue through the generosity of the White Sox organization, which contributes half of the gross receipts of tickets sold by the Shriners. Mother's Day morning found Petersen Park swarming with mothers, fathers and eager nine and ten year old boys and girls as the first Pitch, Hit & Run event got under way. With members of the Resue Squad standing by in the event of an emergency, the boys and girls in this younger age bracket competed on a point ac­ cumulation system to show their prowess in hitting and throwing a baseball and in running a baseline. The two hour event produced two winners and two runners-up. In the nine-year-old event Christopher Landis socred 182 points to be the winner with Todd Wienholtz scoring 166 points for runner-up. In the ten- year-old category Bill Cameron scored 275 to make him the winner while Frank Husak scored 226 points to place him as runner-up. At nine o'clock Sunday morning, May 20, the same event will take place in Petersen Park for eleven and twelve year old boys and girls. There is still time for those who are interested to register for this competition which is conducted on a national basis.
