Alternate School Graduates Seven PAGE 9 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, JUNE 8,1979 H O K / A t Z t 70 f ; Using the moon as a reflector, a message recorded by President Eisenhower ir 1959 was transmitted from Massachusetts to Canada's Prime Minister Diefenb r in Saskatchewan. DONNA McNISH McHenry Alternative high school is graduating seven students Friday, June 8, at McHenry city park. Members of the 1979 graudating class are Donna McNish, Lynn Borowski, Dennis Lulow, Phil Gorbachik, Page Pinger, Leonard Klapperich and Dave Adams. At the special request of the graduating seniors, each staff member from the Alternative school will speak at commencement. This graudation ceremony has special meaning for the Alternative school. This is its first graduation since the school left District 156 to become a private Alternative school. The ceremony marks the end of a very successful year. Beginning the 1978-79 school year with 21 students, enrollment reached the LYNN BOROWSKI maximum of 30 students within the first two months of the year. One of the most important differences between previous years and this year was the tuition fee charged. Students paid $70 per month for tuition. This contributed substantially to the school's budget. In addition, Alternative school students have been involved in a variety of fund raisins activities during the school year. The students raised $1,500 by holding a Christmas tree sale, two car washes, and craft and bake sale. Part of the money has been used to buy equipment for the school. Another portion paid for an evening of dinner and theater in Chicago. The school plans to be open this summer. In conjuration with McHenry county C.E.T.A., DENNIS LULOW it will be operating a pilot project to provide classes in basic skills (reading, gram mar, spelling, arithmetic), pre- employment skills, career development, and s<»lf PAGE PINGER awareness. The school is operated by the McHenry County Alternativ Education foundation. The election of a new board of directors for the McHenry LEONARD KLAPPERICH County Alternative Education foundation will take place at e foundation's annual meeting of the membership at 7:30 p.m. July 10 at the school. The public is invited.
