PRESIDENT: Yes, I read about it, but I must say I was disappointed in Mr. Andrew Young. He has been one of our outstanding members in recent years. In fact, I had been thinking of him as a likely candidate for our Hypocrite of the Year prize until now. But, the other day in the U.N. he lost much credibility in my eyes, for he actually criticized those who voted to kick out the South Africans by saying it would be "counter-productive" to keep them out of the debate. C.F.O.: I agree that it was a disappointment, but don't hold it against Mr. Young. He has been simply marvelous in helping us keep things in a turmoil over Rhodesia. He has held out for those "all-party" talks with the terrorists Nkomo and Mugabe, and everyone knows that the last thing those two want is a free, democratic Zimbabwe-Rhodesia. So, let's give credit where it's due. ~ PRESIDENT: You're right. Besides, several of the African nations which voted to keep South Africa out of the Namibia discussions did it with a flair that's a credit to the highest principles of the International Association of Hypocrites. They claimed that South Africa it has srif- should not participate because its government is illegitimate inasmuch as it denies the vote to some of its people, in this case blacks. Isn't that rich, coming from a bunch that presidents-for-life, proclaimed emperors, one- party rule, and in some cases, full-blown dictatorships? Talk about denying the vote! (He slaps his knee laughing.) C.F.O.: I rather liked the performance of the U.N. hierarchy itself. They are treating SWAPO, the South­ west Africa guerrillas, as if they were the legitimate government of Namibia when, in fact, they haven't been able to gain a nickel's worth of support from South-West Africa's people in more than a dozen years of trying -- terrorist attacks and all. When the head of SWAPO shows up at the U.N., they treat him like a head of state. Now, you'll have to admit that's first-rate hypocrisy, just the sort of thing our members love. PRESIDENT: Yes, sir, but it may be matched by the New York Times and the Washington Post. Both have been pasting the Argentines lately in editorials over human rights. The Post almost com­ pared Argentina's government with Idi Amin's. It's delicious the way they pontificate. A lot of their stuff is based on third- party allegations of human rights, but the wonderful thing about those Times and Post writers is that they can use those allegations to work themselves up almost to the point of frothing at the mouth over "human rights" without once mentioning Cuba, Viet­ nam, Cambodia, or a half- dozen other places where human rights don't exist. C.F.O.: Yes, that's good stuff all right. We need lots more of it if our noble cause is to triumph. We must, of course, do a lot of recruiting on college cam­ puses. Today's demonstrator could be tomorrow's leading hypocrite if we bring him along with care and patience. Judd street, Woodstock Silk Screen Lecture The Northland Area Art league will present a silk screen printing lecture- demonstration by Kathy Dulen Friday, June 22, at 8 p.m. at McHenry County college. Art department. Crystal Lake. Kathy Dulen, graphic specialist and consultant for the screen printing industry, has been in commercial ad­ vertising for 15 years. She has a fine Arts degree from Schoool of the Art Institute of Chicago- the University of Chicago. "My Interests in art revolve around the quiet, easy-flowing pace of nature. Whenever I'm apart from the mechanical rush-rush world of advertising art, I can find solitude and peace in nature s haven It is also a place to find a myriad of perfect miniture artworks", states Ms. Dulen She records these miniatures with photography and serigraphy. High contrast photography is used to do this, with the addition of printing techniques that soften the look and add warmth and a living quality. These screen printing techniques are free form and relatively new. Property coordinated, the free form blobs, splotches, streaks of color, and random patterns that are made spontaneously with silk screen, result in very impressionistic and unusual natural effects. It is the numerous combinations of these techniques that enable her to produce fantasy souveniers of nature's transient moods. Refreshments will follow her talk. Treasurer's report was given, and the secretary read the minutes, and took roll call For new business we decided to march in the McHenry Fiesta Day parade July 29, and might have a float. We decided on having our club tour and picnic on July 21, but the county rummage sale might be that same day; if so we'll have it on June 28 We also voted to donate $50 to the 4-H Foundation for a new building to house offices and meeting rooms for 4-H meetings Mrs. Vyduna gave out the- ribbons for being in the Johnsburg P.T O. Talent show with our Share-The-Fun act. We have seven of our members doing foods demonstrations. It was announced that anyone that needed help with projects was to call our leader. We are buying a wood bench for the 4-H Federation food stand at the county fair. Debby Griggs stated that she had made a scrapbook for her Arboretum, which is also our 4- H Communtiy Improvement project.
