Audience With Pope PAGE 21 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27.1979 , 9 Rep. Thomas J. Hanahan, center, and his wife, Dolores, were granted a special audience with Pope John Paul II May 30. The highlight of a recent trip to Rome for Rep. Thomas J. Hanahan (D-33rd) and his wife, Dolores, was an audience with Pope John Paul II. Hanahan described the Pope as "very down-to-earth" and said he speaks English fluently. In addition, Hanahan had the opportunity to observe the Italian election June 2 and 3. He said voting ages differ in Italy for various offices. An Italian must be 25 to vote for a Senate candidate, 21 to vote for a House candidate and 18 to vote for administrative offices. "I think that's an idea we might consider here," Hanahan said. Hanahan returned to Springfield in time for the crucial final three weeks of the spring session of the Legislature.
