SALVATION ARMY ** TAG DAY The Social Ministry com mittees of both Nativity Lutheran church and Christ the King Catholic church worked together for the third year on Salvation Army Tag day. Co- chairmen were Dottee Jacobson and Loretta Dudziak. It was a most successful day, bringing in $517.16. Those helping tag from botff churches were Reverand Roger Olson, Diane Olson, Trudy Gohl, Barbara Fornwall, Lorraine Fejedelem, Mary McCarty, Tracy Stolle, Wallie O'Brien, Mary Raber, Judy Beaman, Betty Sullivan. Scott Detwiller, Marian Laier, Bea Kutansky, Charlie Jacobson, Loretta Dudziak, Dottee Jacobson and Joann Firnbach. FISH BEING PHASED OUT Since the introduction of the R.T.A. to Wonder Lake, there has been a decreasing need for the services offered by the Fish organization. Within the next month, they will be disbanding; but if the need ever arises, they will again seek volunteers and re-organize. This was a group of people who volunttered their time and efforts to help anyone they could, with rides to and from doctors or picking up medicine. Their services were greatly appreciated. Helen Pedersen, who handled the answering service, verifying every call, and getting help where it was needed, contributed much. Fish was a much needed group in the Wonder Lake area and their services were ap preciated. ATTENDS CONVENTION The Reverend Roger Olson and wife, Diane, along with the Chalie Jacobsons attended the Illinois Synod convention of the} Lutheran Church of America at DeKalb froqn June 9 to 11. Rev. Olson and Dottee Jacobson served as delegates from Nativity Lutheran church. In addition to various meetings, they attended forums, Speak-ins, and on Sunday, witnessed the or dination of eleven new pastors. Six pastors were recognized at that time for having been or dained fifty years. Three new congregations had their charters approved. They entered the assembly hall carrying banners made by their members and were welcomed to a resounding organ prelude. A mass service of Holy Communion was served to nearly four thousand people. It was a thrilling experience for the Olsons and the Jacob- sons, and they hope all fellow parishioners take advantage of a similar convention in the years to come. YOUNG AT HEARTS At the June 20 meeting of the Young At Hearts, final plans were made for the club picnic, which will be held July 18 in Christ the King church hall. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass and the club will provide the meat. Another event being planned is a bake sale that will be held Sunday, July 22. It will begin at 8 am in Christ the King hall and continue until all the baked goods are sold. ° The next meeting will be July 11, beginning at 11 am in Christ the King hall. FIREWORKS Don't forget the fireworks display that will begin as soon as it is dark on the evening of July 3. This year the American Legion and the Men's Social Athletic club are sponsoring the fireworks. They are planning an even bigger and better display this year and have said there will be some surprises. They can be seen from all beaches, or it you're lucky enough to be out on a boat, it is a gorgeous sight. Come and join the ooos and ahs to celebrate the birthday of the United States. FAMILY LEAVES LAKE Jack (Jake), Leanna, Dawn, Rick, Mike, and vJason Jacobson have recently pur chased a home on five acres of land in Marengo and have moved from Wonder Lake. They will be spending all their time renovating the large old farmhouse and multiple other farm buildings on their property. Jake will be missed by the fire department where he served for many years as a fire fighter and paramedic. His brother, Jim, will now carry on ' the Jacobson tradition with the fire department.! Missing their children and grandchildren are long time residents Mel and Grace Sellek, and Charlie and Dottee Jacobson. Dottee tells me they are all grateful the move was only to Marengo and not cross country. Good luck in your new home, but we will all miss you in Wonder Lake. SPECIAL DAYS Happy birthday to three Greenwood students who will be turning seven years old. June 27, Ericka nevsimal celebrates her special day. RELAXING DAYS OF SUMMER Summer has finally arrived- -that time of relaxation! No more getting children to bed early so that they do their best in school the next day. No more buses to be on time for. No buses to meet, but now the kids are getting up at the crack of dawn to see cartoons on a certain channel. I used to be able to sit down with a cup of coffee after the bus pulled away, but now it's breakfast before the telephone starts ringing, arranging the ball game schedule for the day. The wash has doubled now since the boy driving through puddles does get a little dirty; so does his older brother, who thinks you have to fall every time you catch a ball just to make it look good. "Can you pick up Joe,; can we take Ken; Bob's Mom doesn't have the car so can we drive him home?"...doesn't anyone know I have breakfast and lunch dishes to do? Little League games on Tuesday and Thursday: Dad playing ball on Friday and Sunday, grocery shopping Thursday, wait a minute--this is the season of relaxation! Things will get better, that is after two weeks of swimming lessons, where two sons are taking swimming lessons and I'm helping as beach Mom, summer band camp at the Woodstock City park, ball tournaments, and birthday parties. Only 62 more days until school starts, and boy, will that second cup of coffee taste good!
