Wilmot road, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. The Grand Rapids School of Bible and I Music offers a concentrated education in the Bible. Music is also a major emphasis at the school, and over 100 of the 640 students are Involved in a weekly musical ministry. The music of the Kings Choristers is designed to fulfill the concept that "The unique character of the Bible institute meets a burgeoning need in today's society. That need Is to relate man to God In a positive manner as prescribed in the Holy Scriptures". Their director, David Traeger, has planned their repertoire to give a balanced program of hymns, gospel songs and spirituals that are conservative in arrangement but bright and pleasing to style. The public is cordially invited to attend. There is no admission charge. UNIFORM ANATOMICAL . GIFT ACT With the advent in modern medicine of the possibilities of heart, kidney and other vital organ transplants, it has Jjecome increasingly necessary for legislature and courts in conjunction with the medical profession to determine proper and humane procedures which allow for these lifesaving measures to be carried out. At the same time there is concern for safeguarding the interests and rights of both the potential donee and the donor and their families. „ One approach which many states have taken in an attempt to prevent many of the com plicated legal issues which could arise out of these new metficaT-prbeedures 1* "the adoption of the Uniform Anatomical Gift act. Illinois adopted the act in 1969. ^ According to the Illinois State Bar association (ISBA), the act regulates such things as who may execute an anatomical gift, who may become a donee, purposes for which anatomical gifts may be made, the manner of executing such gifts, and rights and duties of persons involved after, the death of the donor. Persons who may execute an anatomical gift: 1. Any adult of sound mind - the gift to take effect upon such person's death. 2. The following persons, in order of priority, may make the gift immeditately before or after death: - a. the spouse. b. Adult sons or daughters c. Either parent d. Adult brothers or sijlters .e. Guardian of the decedent If a gift by one of the above is opposed by a member of the same or prior class, the donee cannot accept the gift. • Persons who may become donees and purposes for which anatomical gifts may be made: 1. Any hospital, surgeon, or physician, for medical or dental education, research or transplantation. 2. Any accredited medical, chiropractic, mortuary or dental school, college or university for education or reserach. 3. Any bank or storage facility, for medical or dental education, research or tran splantation. 4. Any specified individual for therapy or. transplantation needed by such individual, or for any other purpose. Any physician who becomes a donee may not participate either physically or financially in the procedures for removing or transplanting a part. Manner of executing anatomical gifts: 1. By will, effective upon the death of the donor without waiting for probate. 2. By a written document made by donor other than a will, effective upon death of the donor. The document which may be a card designed to be carried on the person, must be Pregnant, (NEED HELP? » CALL BIRTHRIGHT OFFICE OWN FROM 9 To II A M 1 7 To*P.M. Gifts made by family- members be made by a document signed by such family members or made by t e l e g r a p h i c r e c o r d e d telephonic, or other recorded message. When gifts are made by an individual donor by will or written document, a copy of the document may be delivered either to the recipient or other facility that accepts it for safekeeping in order to ex pedite procedures after death, but such delivery is not necessary to the validity of the gift. Rights and duties at each: The time of death shall be determined by ,a physician whd attends the donor at death, or the physician who certifies death. In either case such physician-cannot participate in procedures for removing or transplanting a part. Upoft death of the donor the donee may accept or reject the gift, but if it is law provides that decendent donor's body be treated not only according to the terms of the gift, but humanely and with due respect to the surviving family. According to the ISBA, such gifts once authorized can be taken back. Authorization can be revoked by: 1. The delivery to the donee of a singed statement witnessed and certified. 2. A signed card carried on one's person or a signed document kept in one's effects which was witnessed and cer tified at a date subsequent to* date of the original gift. 3. By amending the will which v contains the authorization of the gift. For those organ donors who • prefer to carry an organ donor card on their person, the Secretary of State's office now provides that a space be reserved on the back of drivers licenses for the placement of a sticker which alerts proper authorities that the individual is carrying an Anatomical Gift DID YOU? Did you hear the sounds of tramping feet As our brave sons marched down the street? Did you see them smile as they stepped on board Of the great airship and off they soard? Did you see their tears as they said goodbye To all they knew - did you hear them cry ? Did you hear the sigh of a sweetheart dear Did you look in her eyes and see her fear? Or did you stand with hearts so .blind And say to yourselves, "They're not our kind?" Did you turn your backs on our brave young sons And say to yourselves, "We're not the ones?" It's not our worry and not our care We're not the ones who sent them there. They're not our husbands and lovers and sons We're sorry for you, but we're not the ones? Now that the wars are in the past And the ones who can, have come home at last Did you pause to remember their gifts to you The price we owe them our whole lives thru? To protect and preserve this great land of ours They gave their lives and all their powers. Now it's up to us to love and revere The debt we owe is very clear. By Louise Hipwell t, Me; '.V-.
