Miss MeHenry county can­ didates from throughout MeHenry county begin the quest for the Mtes MeHenry county 1979 title at an orien­ tation meeting this week. . The candidates will appear before the judges twice-next week at a preliminary Judging and the final time on Wed­ nesday night, Aug. 1 as the main attraction on the opening night of the MeHenry county fair. 'k Judging will be based on beauty, personality and poise, and the winner will represent the MeHenry County Fair association in the Miu Illinois County .Fair contest in January, I96flt. Suzette Rezab, Algonquin, is the reigning Miss MeHenry county. Candidates in -Jhis 1979 pageantry are Sjwnsored by local organizations, and the first meeting will consist of the candidates and their parents with officials of the fair, in­ cluding Dorothy Kleckner, chairman. At the preliminary judging July 12, sponsor representatives and members of the press will be guests of the fair association. Following are the 1979 entries along with some data about each candidate: MISS CARY - Teresa Doyle, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kass, Cary. Sponsored by Cary Chamber of Com­ merce. Teresa is 5' 5" tall, and has light brown hair and blue eyes. She is a second year nursing student at Lutheran General hospital in a three-year nursing program. She attends school year around and would like to specialize in surgical or psychiatric nursing. She is also interested in athletic medicine. MISS CRYSTAL LAKE - Valerie Flagg, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Flagg, Crystal Lake, sponsored by Crystal Lake Park District. Valerie is 5' 7" tall, and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is working at a bank in Crystal Lake and attending MeHenry County college this summer. She plans to continue working while also attending modeling school this fall. She will be a senior at Alden-Hebron high school this fall, she would like to get in­ volved in music as she con­ siders a career-or, she adds, "with animal training and conservation". As we are approaching the halfway point of this summer, many parents have un­ doubtedly encountered various warm weather illnesses and injuries. Bug bites, sunburn, bike accidents resulting in cuts and scrapes, and allergies can be less traumatic to both parents and children if mom and dad know the most ef­ fective treatments. Mother's help line - This telephone service gives non­ medical advice and emotional support to newly delivered mothers as they assume total newborn care at home. Discussion Groups - These groups meet once a month to discuss topics of interest to mothers of children 9 months to 3 years old. Children's play groups - SCOPE members with preschoolers can have their children participate in organized play groups which meet weekly in members' home. itwTrrv Parent Education - Meetings, open to the public, are held every three months and feature qualified speakers in many fields of early childhood care and education. The programs offer parents an opportunity to share ideas and gain knowledge on a particular area of parenting. SCOPE also holds many special events such as children's parties, family activities, and craft groups to prepare for the biannual bazaar. ALUMNI DINNER DANCE The officers of the Richmond- Burton Community high school Alumni association, have ex­ tended the deadline for pur­ chasing tickets to July 12. "MAKE TODAY COUNT" MEETS - A MeHenry county chapter of "Make Today Count" will meet Thursday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Woodstock First United Methodist church.
