A rest period in the air conditioned cabins was held in the mor nings and again in the af ternoons. Because some require medication during the night, a nilrse was on duty in each cabin to smake this possible. While school nurses and physicians help publicize Camp Superkids, as it was called, Harper urges parents who may be interested in the camp next year to get in touch soon with the DuPage-McHenry Lung association in Woodstock, because camp enrollment is always limited. * * « *- There's more to being a good teacher than a knowledge of a subject. (Written under the auspiees of Lieutenant Governor Dave O'Neal) (The following is furnished courtesy of the Social Security Administration) Q. My company's pension plan pays retirement pensions at age 55. I'm considering retiring when I reach 55 later this year. If I do, how will this affect my Social Security benefits at age 65? A. The amount of your Social Security retirement benefit will be based on your covered earnings over a period of years. If several or more years of no earnings have to be counted, your benefit will be lower than what it would be if you worked until you are 65. Q. Some friends and I have been talking about Social Security. Most of us feel that it's not really a good buy. Couldn't we do better with private insurance or in vestments? A. Social Security is more than just a retirement program. It provides disability and survivors insurance protection for you and your family while you're working. And, it provides Medicare - health insurance - for people 65 and over and many disabled people under 65. No insurance company currently offers a similar package of protection. But, Social Security isn't meant to be the sole source of retirement income. It's a base of income protection that you can build on with individual Boys and girls at Camp Tappawingo near Metamor last week enjoyed nine days of baseball games, swimming, canoeing and hiking. Not at all unusual for campers, but it was for the nearly 100 boys and girls at this camp, according to Henry B. Harper, Crystal Lake, first vice-president of the DuPage-McHenry Lung association. The camp has a lot of trees and grass and is surrounded by cornfields, an environment these children usually stay away from. Some of these children have allergies, and all of them have asthma, Harper said. "With the help of all Lung associations in Illinois, Christmas Seal' funds have provided two physicians, 14 registered therapists and nurses and 15 counselors, skilled in coping with problems associated with asthmatic children", Harper said. "With 'round the clock medical attention being made available, these children were given the opportunity to enjoy their first camping ex perience," Along with the recreation, educational sessions were held, so that each child could see how far he could go in camp activities. Breathing j exercises were taught there, he added. Following early morning medication and breakfast, children could participate in • JEWEL CATALOG OUTLET STORE • JEWEL CATALOG OUTLET STORE • JEWEL CATALOG OUTLET savings, investments, or other insurance. Q. I recently started working for a local farmer. Is my work covered by Social Security? Q. Wages from farm work are covered by Social Security if you receive at least $150 in .cash pay from your employer during a year, or you are employed on 20 or more days during a year for cash pay figured on a time basis (by the hour, day, week), regardless of the amount of pay. You will get one quarter of coverage for eacy $260 of your covered earnings in 1979, up to a maximum of 4 quarters for a year Q. My wife and I will be 65 later this year. How soon should we apply for our Social Security benefits? A. You should apply for retirement benefits about 2-3 months before you plan to retire. That way, your claim can be processed in time for SEAMLESS GUTTERS offered by R & I ENTERPRISES Aluminum Facia, Soffiting & Siding FOR FREE ESTIMATE CALL: 815-385-7784 your payments to start when you stop working. In addition, you will have full protection under Medicare by applying before the month you are 65. Q. I've heard that it would be to my advantage if my doctor* accepts assignment of the Medicare medical insurance payment. What difference does it make whether he gets the medical insurance payment or I do? A. When doctors (or sup pliers) accept the assignment method of payment, they also must accept the Medicare reasonable charge as their total charge. They can bill you only for 20 percent of the reasonable charge (plus any part of the deductible you haven't met). If you file the claim for payments, the doctor can bill you for his or her actual charge, even if it is more than the Medicare reasonable charge. * .
