M.C.C. a steady 89 for 18 holes , helped proclaim Carol Cooney the "winner and still champion" of the women of McHenry Country club as Tuesday's play concluded the three-week Club and Class • Championship Tournament. Carol posted a total of 278 gross while Joanie Buss posted a net of 233 to give her the win for Low Net Championship in Class A. Emerging from a tight race in Class B Irene Kinneman posted a final 321 to give her Low Gross Championship in her class while Mabel Smith forged ahead of the other contenders to earn the title of Low Net Championship in the same class, posting a net 231. The closest race run was that in Class C where it was neck and neck between Irene Kin neman and Gloria Otth. Holding on to her one-stroke lead of last week, Irene posted a final of 347 gross to capture the title of Low Gross Cham pion in her flight. Eight on her heels but dropping back one stroke, Gloria earned the title of Low Net Champion, posting a net 239. The only lead-cinch win was that of Mary Mutchinsky in Class D. Posting a total 376 gross Mary is the Low Gross Champion in her flight. Coming from behind in third place Shari Weakman won the title of Low Net Champion by posting a total 244 net. It has been an interesting three-week tournament with many up and down scores and- the gals are to be commended for their perserverance. Congratulations to all - winners and losers. Daily events postings show Floss O'Connell having low net of 74 in Class A. Floss tied with Nancy Wilkins for low putts of 31 each in the same class. "Blue-eyes" Mabel Smith low netted with 73 in Class B and tied with Dorothy Freund for low putts of 28 each. That's pretty fine putting. In Class C Jeanie Remke low netted with 74 while mild Myrtie Johnson had low putts of 31 in the same class. In Class D Shari Weak- man had low net of 80 while Mary Mutchinsky rolled in 30 putts for low putts in the same class. Whereas a number of birdies were recorded last week only two wait up on the board this week - that of Carol Cooney on no. 15 and a humdinger of a one by Myrt Johnson on no. 9. It seems Myrt's drive was less than auspicious and, with the air heavily laden with moisture, well forty yards short of the green. With the . con fidence of a pro Myrtie at tacked with her wedge and plopped the ball in the cup where it belonged. There are a number of skill shots in many of the golf bags among the gals at McHenry. Three chip-ins were also reported. Dot Christiensen and Liz Nolan chipped in on no. 5 and Kitty Ballstaedt chipped in on no. 10. Dorothy Hollander continues to be the nice help she is by reporting news of the Nifty Niners. This week the Nifties played a Grandmothers-Non Grandmothers event with Bea Pond placing first in the Grandmothers category and Joyce Kentzel first in the non- Grandmothers. Low putts went to Lorraine Young who rolled in 16 for the nine-hole event. Martha McCrary, although was not low, was feeling mighty pleased with the 30vfooter she sank on no. 17. Next week is the last scheduled event for the Nifty Niners. It will be a sur prise. For the eighteen holers, a 3- best-balls ABCD event will be held next week, so, Til then, Happy Golfing! CHAPEL KILL ĵ SUNDAY • SWINGERS I The Sunday Swingers have been busy even though the writer has been a little lax reporting their activities. One Sunday we went to Hunter Country Club for our league event. It was quite an ex perience. We had a very nice dinner at the club after golf and found it a nice change of pace. However, the scores were not quite as good as those we get on our own golf course so everyone was glad to return and play the old familiar 18 at Chapel Hill. Quite a few of our Swingers have been absent at different times as everyone seemd busy this summer with vacations, graduations, etc. Last Sunday we braved the weather and it really turne dout well after about the second hole. Kep tthreatening to rain again but hel doff until we were in. Event this week was low putts which was won by "Magilla" Switzer, Marvin Lilla and one half of the Odd Couple, Shirley Dawson. The Lilla's have really been practicing and running off with all the prizes this year! The weatherman doesn't speak week for our future golfing through the month of Sept. We will hold our "Swinging Out" banquet on oct. 6. Hope we don't freeze. Would tell you about some more events we held but have misplaced my notes and don't want to pass up anyone in announcing winners. Well, think good weather for a few more months. I'll try to get back on the old ball and keep you informed about the goings on of the "Swingers". Don't think we will be playing golf over Labor Day. Many of the league members will be out of town or on vacation so won't schedule an event for that day. More next week (you can hardly wait, huh?)
