' • ' -- • • • • -/'Dinty" hadn't heard that nickname in a long time. He was a movie machine operator, starting way back in the days of John and "Matty" Smith and continued his chosen work in Monmouth, 111., until two years ago. J : . _ There are still many McHenry residents who remember r'Dinty". Let me tell thee, we had a visit. But, time ran out. The McHenry High golf team defeated Elgin Friday afternoon at the McHenry Country club by the score of 160 to 181. Tarry Remke lad the way with a 38, followed by A1 Ekeroth and Joe Bellich with 40, and Mike Nank had 42. mkm • We got it! '.. _ Yep. Here's the picture of Marie Corso and George Halas, owner of the Chicago Bears, at the Lake Forest training camo. Look at the smile on George's face. As Marie holds the 01' boy's hand, he looks ready to throw his cane away. No foolin' They were mapping out strategy for the team. McHenry high's new timekeeper, Rex Hester, hoisted me into the press box last Friday night to watch the Warrior-Grant football game. He s big and strong so has the job sewed up! Some people try to tell us it matters not who wins - it's how you play the game. There is a lot to be said for that theory; but there is nothing like winning. We lost. "v -- . 3tai Bau Pick Kabo •. u. 11 . a i... the mike long enough to ass ait Supt. Bob Swartzloff the Warriors would score if they got inside the 'fWard line. F"*Huh! i Vdi lorswillhav neir of f t i s t working. They mix up their plays real well. (Oi course, witn privileges of a Monday morning quarterback, I couldn't agree with a couple of calls). , If movies of the game don't make me out as a poor observer, our team looked much better passing to one side of the field than the other. e The men in the box had some fun about Jean Natoli "invading" the press coop. j'Ci Jean is listed as the "Cheerleader Sponsor". I didn't know that \*as her title, but did know she does a great job of showing our snappy, bouncy, cute cheerleaders how to perform. With he: smile, I expect to see Jean bacK in the coop again as the men just melt away. <* \ _ It is always reassuring to see Earl Cooper out there with our athletes. He is their trainer, with formal education in how to care for injuries. ' " I ; There will be anothei home football game Friday night when Gary-Grove, a member of the Fox Valley Conference, comes to do battle with our Warriors j r Vince and Pauline Adams took a trip to Germany and came back iwith some special cigars for S.I.H. - That was very thoughtful. Now, maybe we can send them on a trip to Cuba. Fidel Castro won't let us have any of those Havanas. * From our easy chair, we watched the Chicago Bears drop a 24-20 -game to the Dallas Cowboys. Roger Stauback, with much better protection than the Bears gave Evans, threw three touchdown passes. •" -Of course, Roger has more experience and fades back farther 'before he lets fly with the pigskin. » , *As great as he is, Walter Payton can't do it all on offense. The old iQne-two punch is missing with Roland Harper on the injured list. - *- From way out in California comes a note from La Verne Hromec jliith clipping from one of our recent columns in winch we reported ?&rnold Rauen and Eddie Hettermann inventing pontoons for their $61f carts. ;LaVerne tosses in a boost for Sunnyvale weather. "t*(We have had great weather, too. Of course, we see a cloud now llfchd then). -- felt's nice to hear from friends in far away places. Ye Olde ^taindealer travels from coast to coast.
