The night was clear and cold with a bright moon shedding its cold rays over the earth, making the night an ideal one for the ap pearance of Jack Frost, whose arrival was not wholly ex pected. Here's.hoping that autumn and Jack Frost will bring the Indian summer, whose warm days are enjoyed before the arrival of colder winter weather. FORTY YEARS AGOt (Taken from the files of Sep tember 28, 1939) Added enthusiasm was created at the regular meeting of the McHenry Lions club, held at the Karls dining room, when it was announced by the president,'A.E. Nye, that the club has more new members already signed up and many prospects of membership. Owners of Lake Defiance, a private lake, stocked their favorite fishing spot with some 20,000 little fishies. There were about 2,000 bluegills and croppies-the rest were bass. The Shamrocks gave the McHenry nine quite a tussle on the local diamond. The buckeroos from Irish Prairie collected only four hits^ but they got the same number of runs. George Larkin, batting against his brother, Jim, led the McHenry attack with a double and ~ two singles. However, Jim managed to hold the rest of the .lineup (with the exception of Bennett) in hand. The score was 9 to 4 in favor of McHenry.
