Lakemoor-Lilymoor Margaret Karas 385-4934 Small Crimes Tell Sad Tale Tlie only convenience food store in our area was again broken into and money, cigarettes, and other /items stolen. Such a sad commentary on our times, when a small storeowner, who can barely make a living after, working long hours, is victimized by thoSe who steal what they will not work for. Ruth Mormon, the owner, who is under doctor's care for a heart condition, was distraught, that money donated for the "Save the Lake" fund , for the Lily Lake Conservation club was stolen* along with tickets and money belonging to our fire department. The ex pensive insurance she pays for, does not cover loss by theft or destruction by vandals. That a small business, which is of such importance to our community is robbed, leaves us with a heartsick feeling. Is citizen involvement a way to fight crimes? Beware of what is happening around you, and report any suspect activities to the authorities. Help businesses such as the Little Store and the arson stricken Sports Pub, by making your observations known. Who knows who might be the next victim? BUSSTOPS With our grade school children now back in school, it is good to see adults waiting at school bus stops with the children. Adult supervision helps remind the little ones to stay on the road sides, refrain from throwing stones, and to stay friendly. This is a positive action by parents who want the school experience to be a good one for all children. LADIES NIGHT |r. The Lily Lake Ladies League had an enjoyable evening last Wednesday at its meeting place, the Lakemoor municipal building. Bunco was played, with the winners being Mildred Narcarti, Helen Para and Lu Gravenstuk. Mildred Nejedly won booby prize. Joan Delatorre and Jean Dember provided the refreshments that completed the fun evening out. ONE WOMAN'S LIB v Lady truck drivers? Maureen $ Paroubek now is a licensed *' Semi driver, having passed the driver's test on Sept. 13. Maureen's past endeavors have included nurses' training; working with and riding race horses; showing and training Doberman pinschers; driving a motorcycle; plus having ar tistic ability. And she hasn't seen her thirtieth birthday yet. This slim young woman with the Irish:jig hair is quite amazing, and we're curious as to what her next ac complishment will be.- GET WELLS Doug Alheit is back at work, after undergoing more health problems. Charles Nettles, vice president of the Lily Lake Conservation club, has been home under doctor's care. Carl and Jackie Stromley are both recuperating. May you all feel much better every day. CELEBRATION TIME Belated birthday wishes go to Judy Bird and Lisa Woods, who share the same date, Sept. 20, the same street, and a friendly relationship. On Sept. 26, Tracy Bonesz will have her tenth year party. The last day of Sep tember is shared by Helen Freeman, Bridgett Heald and Danny Withrow. Sundae Morrison's birthday on Oct. 1, misses Sunday by one day. Deidre Kent also celebrates on the first. Oct. 2 is the very important date for Alison Elizabeth Hueckstaedt, who will be blowing out two candles on her cake. The anniversary couple honored this week is Jim and Dottle Mentzer, whose wedding date is Sept. 29. So much to be thankful for this past year, with wishes for the blessing promised to all of us, for all celebrating special. dayS. k MATINEE TIME Shady Lane theater was the scene of a happy time for Lu Gravenstuk and others, with the Wauconda senior citizen group. The youngsters all enjoyed riding in a school bus to Marengo, where they shared a good ^luncheon and a fun presentation of "To Bed Early". The, Thorntons', Lu's daughter and son-in-law, also had a busy weekend, with their sons and families joining them on Saturday for a picnic, and Charlene and her family spending Sunday, the twenty- third, at the family homestead in Lilymoor. It was a very exciting week for Lu and family. NATURE NOTES The strident "chip chip" call of the chipmunks surrounds us. In the large boxelder tree branches, on the tall stalks of weeds, on the sidewalks, their short straight tails are evident. As long as they decide not to take up winter residence inside homes chewing up ceilings and insulations, they are bearable. In the channel area, the large herons have been, feeding, doing their ilow motion steps until food is seen. Many ducks have also found this new marshland a place to rear their families. Muskrats swim back and forth, leaving a straight ripple in the water, and are busily making their huts for winter time. Geese have been seen and heard on their way south. The first day of fall was Sept. 23, which means winter is ap proaching, all too soon. 200 inches of snow to look forward to? The birds are really quite intelligent. PROTECTIVE EYEGUARD An alternative to prescription safety glasses, a new curved corrective lens is made of in dustrial safety plastic and designed to fit into a protective eyeguard. With lenses that conform to the shape of the face, these prescription eyeguards reduce vision distortion. Its availability is still limited and cost is con siderably higher than for prescription glasses in common use. • > r, WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT QUANTITIES ION SALE ITEMS Christian Singles To Hold First Conference PAGE 9 -PLAINDEALEK - WtiUNEtlliAi, oc.i ic.»iDtn tv, ....
