Now that she has graduated from Marian and is attending Carthage college in Kenosha, Wis. she is still an „• outstanding athlete. Lori and one other freshman girl have been chosen to play on .the varsity volleyball team for Carthage college. Their team has been doing well, and if they continue winning, will go into the finals in December, traveling California to compete. , Lori, daughter of Alan and Joni Vogt of St. Francis Heights, is a Physical Education major and is also participating in field hockey at the present time. >! Last spring, Lori was given \ the Most Valuable Athlete .Award at Marian Central. That was the first time a girl received the award in the history of the school. RUMMAGE SALE The Wonder Lake area Jaycees and the Men's Club are combining their efforts to raise money for the betterment of the community and recreational . aid for the children by holding a ' rummage sale on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7. It will be held at the This N' That building on Hancock drive, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. • If you have been doing your ?all cleaning and have discovered a few things that you no longer need that are now ^ just taking up space, the men would appreciate the donation. They had pick-up days on Sept. 24 and 25, but will still accept anything you might have. ^Arrangements may be made by calling Tom McMillan at 728-0404. ; Drop in sometime during the two-day sale, because the money you spend will go right back into your community. This is a very energetic group of men and I'm sure you will want to show your support for their efforts by stopping by. GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Kohr of Wonder Center celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sept. 15. They were joined by sixty relatives and friends, some of whom traveled from Nevada, Michigan, Missouri, Florida, Ohio, and southern Illinois to be with them on their special day. Hilton and Alyce Kohr were united in marriage on Sept. 14, 1929, in LaSalle, 111. They have one daughter, Connie Kohr, of Chicago, who helped in the planning of their celebration. to Ken and Nancy I^uretski, who will be celebrating their eighth anniversary^ Also to Tom and Wally O'Brien on Oct. 1, who will be celebrating their thirteenth anniversary. A belated birthday greeting goes to Ginger Skelly of Oak- wood Shores who celebrated her special day on Sept. 20. Today, Sept. 26, is a special day for Anita Beaman, daughter of Bob and Martha Beaman, Hickory Falls, who is celebrating her fifth birthday. ' / Ray O'Brien, son of Tom and Wally O'Brien, will be blowing out nine birthday candles Oct. 2. THEATER TRIP At the Sept. 19 meeting of the Young at Hearts club, final plans were made for a luncheon and theater trip. Members are looking -forward to a day at Shady Lane on Oct. 9. There were thirty members present who enjoyed desserts provided by Marian Draffkorn and Lorraine Fejidelem. Get well wishes were ex tended to three of their members who have recently been under the weather: Lucille Guildemeister, Marie Paulson, and RitaWaldy. The next meeting will be held Oct. 3, at Christ the King church hall, beginning at 11 a.m. BROWNIE REGISTRATION There is still room in the Brownie troop led , by Ruth Thorsen and Marilyn Iodice if any first grade girls from the Harrison school area are in terested. They meet every Monday after school in the home of Ruth Thorsen at 3226 E. Lake Shore drive. If your daughter is interested in becoming a Brownie, contact Mrs. Thorsen at 728-0965. HOSPITALIZED One of our long time residents, Rita Waldy, fell while attending a Senior Citizen meeting at Nativity Lutheran church recently. She was taken by the rescue squad to McHenry hospital, where it was discovered she had broken her hip. She is now recovering from surgery required to take care of the break. I'm sure she would enjoy a card to cheer her. She is room 103 at the McHenry hospital. 1 "STILL OF THE NIGHT" In a previous column, I mentioned how quiet the neigh borhoods were now that school is back in session. Apparently some neighborhoods, such as Oakwood quiet. Shores* are not so Since buses are not allocated for the pick-up of the canine population to take them out of the area to schoo^arking dogs < have become a problem. Several residents of this area are being bothered not only during the daylight hours, but during the late nights when they are trying to sleep. I was told that a chain reaction takes place so that when one dog * starts, the others follow making sleep an impossibility. Just a little cobperation from the dog owners might bring "The Still of The Night" back to Oakwood Shores.
