I know right from wrong, and if I didn't I would have already been in trouble plenty of times. How can I convince my mother that she can trust me? A. Just keep on being trustworthy. We have two daughters and I would trust them anywhere, for they have been reared to live good hves and have strong moral character. And besides, they are not dumb. They know how to handle themselves in whatever situation, and they are smart enough not to get into questionable situations. Tell your mother that you are that kind of girl and that she can always trust you. Then don't let her, or yourself, down. She Loves Women .Q, I have a 21-year-old daughter who is a pretty girl, but she loves women. We have talked, prayed, begged and cried. Is there any way that she can be helped? I am 71 years old and need an answer to my problem. A. The talking and praying part makes sense, but not the begging and crying. If the girl is a homosexual she has a problem. But personally I never admit that there is a problem for which there is no solution. Keep believing in a positive outcome. Your daughter's psychological makeup should be studied. Perhaps normal interest in men has not yet been awakened. Discuss the matter with your physician and, without nagging, try to persuade your daughter to seek counseling. Turn toe problem over to God and you will have inner peace. If there is something you would like to ask Dr. and Mrs. Peale to discuss in this column, write to them in care of Box 500, Pawling, N.Y. 12564. The first public showing of the energy efficient dollhouse will be held in the Presbyterian church in Woodstock on Thursday. Oct. 11 at 9:30 a.m. From Oct. 12 through Oct. 18 it can be seen in McHenry County college. The energy con servation project traveling throughout the state is spon sored by the Illinois League of Women voters. The tastefully decorated, two-story home was inspected three times by the Highland Park Building Department. After passing inspection, the little home was folded up and carried away suitcase style by its builder. No it's not your usual home. It's a miniature house built as an energy efficient home. That's one reason its builder, Judith Bernstein, asked members of the building department in her local city to inspect her work. "The details of the house are superb", said Mrs. Carol Sek, president of the Woodstock- McHenry League of Women Voters. "I saw the house at the state League convention in Chicago. It's about 5 feet tall and completely furnished." "The house is very complete and shows from attic to basement all the steps a homeowner can take to make his home more energy efficient. It contains many features for saving energy, some which are very familiar such as attic insulation, storm windows and doors, and some which are not so familiar such as insulated shutters in the kitchen and insulated wallpaper in the bathroom," said the Wood- stock-McHenry League president. Commissioned by the Highland Park League of Women Voters, the dollhouse was presented to the City of Highland Park April 9 in commemoration of the League's 50th anniversary. Following the success of the project, the League received $5,000 from the Illinois Humanities Council, which enables then to commission two more energy-efficient dollhouses to be built and loaned to local Leagues throughout the state. The task of building and furnishing the homes has fallen on Bernstein's shoulders. "I've always done miniatures and enjoyed playing with little things. When I was 14,1 built a miniature room in a shoe box, explained Bernstein. "Five years ago, I saw the Colleen Moore dollhouse at the Museum of Science and In dustry and it became an ob session to build one (dollhouse,)" said the craft- swoman. The obsession resulted in her quitting her job, taking a course and "spending days building miniatures." "I was involved with the League", said Bernstein, "and they wanted to do something spectacular for the city which En|oy FLORIDA Funj/^ South Seas Style^y-JpJ In SARASOTA' * (Jester* AKU TIKI Shoretront on Gulf of Mexico Enjoy fun-filled days, magical nights on beautiful Lido Beach, one of the world s finest. I said, "how about building a dollhouse?" Everything in the homes, which required 150 hours of work each, is either handmade, assembled from a kit or modified from a kit. ' During her research, Bern stein discovered there are many things which can be done along the lines of interior decorating to save energy. She mentioned these ideas: "The choice of colors is important. There is a warm end of the color spectrum which psychologically make us feel warmer. These are the reds, yellows and oranges," she pointed out. "Pale yellow walls reflect light, and make a room seem brighter. Mirrors reflect sunlight. We can take ad vantage of the sun and use less electricity. "Pictures with glass reflect light, and overstuffed furniture holds in body warmth. Wing chairs cut drafts," she added. "Decorative afghans are warm looking and you can wrap up in them at night. "Foil wallpapers cut drafts and stops cold from penetrating through outside walls. They also reflect light. "Cork paneling is an ex cellent insulator and also decorative. "Put bookcases on outside walls," advised Bernstein. "The books act as good in sulators and reduce the loss of heat through walls. "Water heaters should be insulated and hot water pipes wrapped," she continued. "And then, furnaces should be maintained regularly, walls insulated, doors weather- stripped, windows caulked. During the Deriod the house is on display (October 11 through November 3), the people of the area will also have the op portunity to view the miniatures - including hand made furniture, paper spider plant on the fireplace mantel, tiny embroidery hoop on the sofa, children's pictures on the refrigerator - all of which tend to make the little home seem lifelike.
