Originally from Chicago, the Dasings would come out to McHenry for weekend, visits to their cottage on Riverside drive. \ "We'd come out Friday, do yardwork on Saturday and go back to Chicago on Sunday," Dasing said. the Dasings remembered the days when two cars could easily pass each other on the Old Bridge. Ed Dasing remembered when the Freund farm, north of the Orchard Beach road and Riverside drive intersection,- was made into a nine-hole golf course. "It didn't work and soon changed back to a farm," Dasing said. • ; The Plaindealer has been in the Dasing family for some 35 years and they enjoy reading the entire paper. The Alpha Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma In ternational opened its 1979-1980 season at Richmond Burton high school, with a program presented by Ms. Mim Krauz, McHenry, and Maurie Taylor, who showed their Newspaper Game to the group. This game, which is currently being manufactured by the Chicago Sun Times, was designed by Ms. Taylor as a gift to Ms. Krauz to use in her classroom at the school. Ms. Taylor is a former teacher and is currently an active author. The game proved to be such an excellent teaching tool, as well as a delight to the students, that the Sun Times newspaper was invited to see the game in action. (The Sun Times newspaper is used as a source in the game.) After viewing the game in use, they immediately took action to put it into production. The women are hopeful it will be placed on the market for distribution in the near future. Ms. Sue Anderson, president, conducted the business meeting, and Laura Rogers and Marcia Wright informed the group about the workshop they attended on "Women in the Arts", held in Decatur, Illinois. "Alpha Theta Women in Action" is the theme being used by the organization this year. Each meeting a member will be honored for outstanding service to her community and school. Ms. Mim Krauz, McHenry, was the first Alpha Theta to be honored. Marlene Goetschel reviewed Ms. Krauz's achievements which included being named in Who's Who in Education, s u c c e s s f u l l y t e a c h i n g Language Arts at McHenry Junior high, as well as receiving her masters degree. Refreshments were served by the October committee. The next meeting will be held at the Crystal Lake Country club in November. This will be the formal initiation of new members and all present members are urged to attend. Sponsors Crafts Fair Calvary Christian center is sponsoring its first annual Arts and Crafts fair to be held Friday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 10. More than 55 craft smen and artists will present their fine items. l'For your convenience beverages and hot food will be available. •Calvary Christian center has been involved in an active building program that includes a brand new gymnasium, which is where the Arts and Crafts fair will be located. You can find Calvary Christian center at 5906 South Route 31, Crystal Lake(V4 mile south of Route 176). Look for the "Arts and Crafts Fair" sign on the east side of the road. The fair will be open from 10am until 5pm both Friday and Saturday. Prepare Annual Rumbaz These are busy days for Mount Hope church's United Methodist Women as they prepare for their annual holiday bazaar, bake sale and rummage sale, known as the "Rumbaz". It will be held two days, Nov. 1 and 3. Thursday, Nov. 1, the door will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. A delicious lun cheon will be served from noon until 2 p.m. The ladies have made beautiful and unique gift items for Christmas and all occasion giving. Mrs. Mary Nolen is in charge of tickets for the lun- che6n. On Saturday, Nov. 3, the bazaar will continue featuring one of their famous bake sales, plus a rummage and white elephant sale in the basement. The door will be open Saturday -from 9 a.m. until noon. The Holiday Hills Womens club's seventh annual Christmas Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, 3002 W. route 120, McHenry. The bazaar is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars, post 4600, and will be open at 9 a.m. The Holiday Hills Womens club space will feature hqme baked items. In addition to home baked items the shoppers will find ceramics, crochet items, fashion doll clothes, Christmas ornaments and decorations, decoupage, Johnsburg PTO Gives Halloween Play Sunday The Johnsburg PTO will present a Halloween play for the children in the community Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Qct. 28, at 2 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The play, "Dark Doings", is directed by Mrs. Barbara Miller. "Adults as well as children will be delighted with this mystery comedy set in an old deserted mansion. It has its own ghost and strange characters lurking about", remarked Mrs. Marunde, chairman of the play com mittee. All rtiembers of the com munity are invited to attend. The club will also be ob serving Reciprocity Day, and is hoping that many of the clubs' members in the district will join and help celebrate the anniversary. Mrs. Datz, chairman of fine arts, has requested members to bring something homemade to exhibit, such as painting, ceramics, stitchery or Christmas decorations. Ruth William Johnson is a food consultant whose sparkling, friendly manner and natural "Hoosier Wit" will make this a program all will remember. Included will be low calorie dishes, unusual gour met dishes, foods for holiday entertaining, and other menus with much appeal.
