BUSY TIMES Many girls involved in the scouting program have been very busy lately. The Brownies of Troop 413 held a "Get Acquainted Tea" to start off the year. They have- been learning the Girts Scout promise; took a trip to an apple orchard and then made candied apples. They *also made some interesting wall hangings under the leadership of Manly Iodice, Ruth Thorsen, and Tracy Stolle. The Junior Girl Scout Troop 416, with the help of their leadership team, Cherie Wright and Bev Lawniczak, have been busy making sit-upons. They also had a Halloween party, enjoyed bobbing for apples, and Tina Nolan won a prize for the prettiest costume, while Kim Hamlin won for the funniest. Instead of carving pumpkins, they drew on the faces, and prizes went to Nancy Diederich and Rene Ruzicka. Kim Yost celebrated her birthday with the Troop and' received a lovely present from the girls. The Brownies of Troop 419, with the leadership team of Jan Lane, Herbie ropp, Nikki Schmidt, and Helen Wright have been learning the Girl Scout laws. To re- enforce their learning, posters, puppet shows and plays were used to show the different laws. The following girls were recently accepted into the troop: Kim Carr, .Becky Clem, Debbie Ehardt, Erin Resko, Nicki Spears, and Michele Weddle. A few of the events that will be coming up for this troop will be making a first aid kit, an outdoor Thanksgiving celebration, and a baking day. Sandy Sarleas and Peggy Mansfield forrfa the leadership team for the Brownies of Troop 492. These girls have been learning a flag ceremony and studied all about the flag of pur country. They will be holding an (pvestiture ceremony sometime in December. PUPPET MAKERS In most cases, an over night stay in a hospital is not a pleasant experience for a young child. One ray of -sunshine though, is a clown puppet that is given to each child as a gift from the Ladies auxiliary of Memorial hospital for McHenry county. They can actually talk to it and have it talk back, maybe even ex- PAGE 19 - PLAIN DEALER - WEDNESDAY. A group of Wonder Lake ladies meet to make these puppets in their homes once a month. Nov. 7, Margo Schustik was the hostess who greeted Stella Lojkovic, Irene Poedtke, Ethel Schert, Helen Sullivan, and Vera Wohnrade for a busy day of puppet making. The ladies never see the delight on the faces of the children as they receive this pleasant surprise, but I'm sure as their hands are busy sewing, they feel the delight inside themselves.
