There are still quite a few people who have forgotten to apply for their new license (date stickers, and are presently driving their vehicles on expired license plates. The fact that you have the new multi-year (dates that are not changed every year, does not mean that you do not have to re­ apply for new licenses. There may be a few people who thought that when the new plates came out they had purchased the two y$$r sticker, which is red in color, and would not have to worry about plates for awhile. They are finding out they were mistaken, and are getting stopped by the police and receiving citations for not having valid license plates. All of you who's license plates have expired should have received a pre-printed form in the mail from the state of Illinois telling you that you have to re-apply for the current sticker. If you have not received a form, and your present sticker has expired, (which can be determined by checking the present sticker) you should either write the Secretary of State's office for a form, or go to any licensing office and apply for a current sticker. In the mean time, you should not drive the vehicle, as you can and will receive a citation from the police for not having license plates. The current sticker for the year 1980 is RED, and unless you have a red sticker on your rear license plate, you could be stopped. It is my understandihg that the City Clerk's office is now selling the 1980 McHenry City sticker. These stickers must be displayed on your vehicle starting in January of 1980 and are good for the calendar year. The cost for the sticker is nominal, compared to the fine for a ticket for not having one, so get to the clerk's office during business hours, which are 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. till noon Saturday. All you children who haven't written to Santa yet, get your letters finished and ask mom or dad to take you to the Pearl street City park where the city has again set up the Santa Claus mail box. The City set up this nifty way to get your letters directly to Santa, and after dark, the band shell is brightly lit with very pretty Christmas decorations and lights.
