Early in tjx^mird period the "Canes" put on a rally and trailed 36 to 35, but then the Warriors went on a spree and outscored the visitors 27 to 8 the rest of the way to win easily. Aric Akins led the way with 15 pts., 12 in the second half. Dennis DeJa picked up 12 pts, Scott Truckenbrod led the Marian scoring with 11 pts. That will fix you. We hardly know what day it is. Holiday deadlines put the pressure on a fellow. This column has to be written days before it will hit the news-stands. Next week will be another of those 3-in-l weeks in getting ready for New Years. The City of Chicago just can't put it all together. Just when the Bears electrify the sports fans, the Blackhawks show signs of life, and the DePaul basketball team bounces up with a super win over UCLA, the city faces a bus strike, possible school closing and a firemen's strike. Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "I hate war". S.I.H. says, "I hate strikes". Strikes hurt too many people. There must be another way. While the Bears' win over the Cardinals was a joy to behold, watching the finish of the Cowboy win over the Redskins was the best finish of the season. The way Roger Staubach passed the pigskin was unbelievable. He's "a cool one. I'm glad to see people go to church, but when they park their cars to block our driveway, I give them a special blessing they will never get in church. < Bill Wagner claims I am too young to remember the famous buckwheat flour produced at Spencer's Mill. Huh! ic::r You should see Bert Harrison's new cap. (His wife didn't pick it out). A greeting from the John Weichmanns claims that Arkansas has about as many McHenryites as Florida. That may take a recount. • Now comes a greeting from one of "Earl's Girls", Sharon Klontz, to claim Clorado as one of the leaders i n t p 1 a i f t e d McHenryites! If everybody leaves, who is going to stay home to tend the store? Mention of the en couraging word from Arkansas somehow left out the name of the sender. Twas none other than Ida Quinlan, a former McHenryite and as nice a gal as you would want to meet. My old complaint about the foul system in basketball loomed up again Tuesday night when Paul Judson's Dundee team beat our Warriors in overtime. Len Jensen, McHenry's floor leader and the best player on the floor on this occasion, fouled out with 4:43 left on the clock. There went the old ball game. I feel the same way about the opposition. Call the fouls and give the other team the free throws. But, give the fans a chance to see the best players on the floor in a close finish. If players would listen to my advice, I would tell them not to look back when they are driving in for a clear cut lay-up without a deferise man in front of them. The crowd roared for the Peoples' Choice, Dick Rabbitt, to lead a chew near the finish. That he did. The Skyhawks now have a 11-1 record on their home court, having lost only to Wauconda last year. During the first quarter, the Rockets managed to keep pace with the Skyhawks. At the quarter's end, the Rockets were only down by two, 16-14. Senior guard Brett Zim- brick came alive in the second quarter, netting three straight field goals and accumulating 8 points in the time period. At halftime, the Skyhawks led 38-30. Johnsburg center* Tom Schoenig silenced the Rocket's engines in the third quarter with a 12-point scoring spree that helped build the Johnsburg lead to 64-46 going into the final period. During the fourth quarter, Johnsburg emptied its bench and came away with an easy '87-64 victory. Tom Schoenig led all scores with 25 points, and Zimbrick trailed closely with 21 points. Chris Dixon scored 15 points; Frank Jakubicek, 13 points; Kurt Valentin, 7 points; and Rick Szumlas, 3 points. The next Skyhawk home game is Jan. 4 against the South Beloit SoBos. The Johnsburg club is currently participating in the Hamp shire Holiday Tournament. K. Valentin S. In some ways the Buckeyes are more potent offensively than form er Woody Hayes-coached teams. Sugar Bowl-Alabama has the nod over Arkansas in another good paring, but the Razorbacks could dethrone Bear Bryanf's undefeated national champs. The Razor- backs might have played a tougher schedule. Orange Bowl-Oklahoma has the nod over Florida State in this one, because Florida State's passing may not be up to the combined running and passing game of thdSooners. This should be a high scoring battle. Cotton Bowl--This go between Houston and Nebraska could be the best game of the bowl season.
