FORTY YEARS^GO (Taken from the files of January 11, 1940) Seventeen indictments were returned by the grand jury at Woodstock naming nine people. A Woodstock man was charged with rape of a 13-year-old Woodstock girl. The 1940 annual home service appeal for funds which the Salvation Army makes at this time of the year in Lake and McHenry counties to carry on work in these counties among the needy the next twelve months is now being organized in all points and will be a simultaneous effort in the whole region. The grade and high school students will especially be At a meeting of the stockholders of the McHenry Boone Creek corporation held at the city hall it was learned that athe new McHenry theatre will open the latter part of this month. A short meeting of the board of directors preceded the stockholders' meeting. At the regular City Council meeting a study of traffic conditions in the city was proposed in an effort to eliminate hazardous con ditions that might cause accidents. Council members ^agreed to attend the meeting "of the County board of supervisors to try to com plete plans for the con struction of a new bridge on South Green street near Edgebrook school. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken front the files of January 9, 1970) With the starh of a new year, many persons in the Wonder Lake area may be interested in the report of state specialists who examined the lake often during the first year of rehabilitation and rated the program excellent. Game fish stocked after last year's total kill of rough scavenger fish have set near-record growth patterns in all parts of the lake. Plans are progressing with enthusiasm for the McHenry snowmobile championship, a ^ "first" for the sponsoring organization, the McHenry Area Chamber of Com merce. Ham Radio Opens New Year Jan. 8 McHenry County Wireless association is a group of amateur (HAM) radio en thusiasts from this area plus Walworth and Kenosha counties in Wisconsin. MCWA meets every first Tuesday of the month at 8 p.m. at McHenry county courthouse ground floor meeting room of the Emergency Operations center.
