JANUARY 16,1980 Outreach For Vietnam Veterans Max Cleland, ad­ ministrator of the Veterans administration, will come to Chicago Jan. 14 to open the VA's newest program, a unique outreach activity aimed at Vietnam Era veterans with readjustment problems. The program will begin in Illinois on thaUdate with the opening of a VA counseling center at 5242 West Chicago avenue. Open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center will be one of the first of 87 nationally to be opened. They are being established under a provision of the Veterans Health Care Amendments act of 1979, signed into law by President Carter last June. It provides for informal, low- key psychological coun­ seling for Vietnam Era veterans who have had difficulty on reentering civilian life. All centers are to be housed away from established VA facilities in store fronts or other locations thought to be convenient to large numbers of veterans needing their services. "We will be trying to give help to a bunch of veterans who. for many reasons, have not been able to put their Vietnam experiences behind them. They gave much and lost much in service t/i oUr nation. Bull Valley Woman To Mental Health Posts Mrs. Jean Dooley of Bull Valley has been elected secretary of both the Executive board and the Northern district of the Illinois Association of Community Mental Health Agencies. The association is a non­ profit organization com­ prised of ninety local agencies throughout Illinois that provide a variety of community: mental health services. Community mental health services include primary prevention of, and services for mental illness, emotional, substance-abuse, developmental disabilities and-or interpersonal problems. The purpose of the association is to strive toward improving the availability and quality of community mental health services for all the citizens of Illinois. ' Mrs. Dooley has served as a board member of the Family Service and Com­ munity Mental JHealth Center for McHenry County since 1976. Committee in­ volvement has included Ad Hoc Search committee for director of center, Ad Hoc Reorganization committee, Bylaws committee, Ad­ vocacy committee (chair­ person), Central Progr Planning committee^ Nominating committee, and presently the Ad Hoc Crisis Program committee and the Woodstock Area committee and Advocacy committee. Serving on the Executive board of the statewide association since 1977, she chairs the Local Board Needs committee, recently chaired the Task Force on Mental Health (Manning, and served on the Nominating committee for officers and the bylaws revision com­ mittee. Mrs. Dooley resides in Bull Valley village, with her husband, Roy. They have two grown children. The last Union veteran of the Civil War died in 1956 at the age of 109.
