Larson, known by her friends as "Sam", has been appointed to the McHenry County 708 Health Board by County Chairman Dick .Klemm. Dr. Larson has a PhD in Neurophiology, MD in Rehabilitative Medicine, MS in Speech Pathology, MS in Audiology and a BS in Speech and Learning Science. She also serves on the professional Advisory Board of the National Association of Learning Disabilities and was elected village clerk of the Village of McHenry Shores. A native of the state of Wisconsin, she is presently employed/at Northwestern university^ in the field of research, and holds the rank of captain in the Army Medical Reserves corps. As a member of the 708 County Health Board, she is able to contribute expertise and experience for the ad­ vantage of all McHenry County citizens. We, of McHenry Shores, are extremely proud to have her as our neighbor and friend. SLEDDING REMINDER With the winter snows finally here, we remind parents that children sledding on the hilly streets of McHenry Shores is ex­ tremely dangerous. Often automobile drivers are unable to see sledders as they approach intersections. A perfect site for sledding is available at the vicinity of the water tower. The hill is steeper and is not accessible to vehicle traffic It also provides an opportunity for children to meet and enjoy the winter sport with other children of their age. On occasions, one can even see fathers partaking in the sport even though the children out-endure Us older folks. VOTER REGISTRATION Primary Elections will be held March 18. Your candidates could be eliminated in the primaries if you leave the decision to other .voters. Be sure that you are registered to vote. Schedule "Dancing Of The 80k" At MCC Two of *he disco classes offered by McHenry County college this semester have been redesigned and titled "Dancing of the 80's". Students will be exposed to music easily identified with today's discotheques, and will become familiar with some of the line dances as well as couple dances such as the hustle and swing. Kathy Paul and John Barcal will teach the five- week classes which start February 6 and 7. The class starting Wed­ nesday, Feb. 6, will be "held at MCC in the Applied SciencV building, Room 104. It is an ex­ tension of the junior-senior level commercial foods course in which students sell coffee cakes, sweet rolls, etc. to the staff and students in . the mornings. These students also take special s orders for birthday cakes and other similar items. To help make this course self- sufficient financially, the students are selling their products at cost. The money earned is returned to the foods budge^ to be used for future endeavors. This course is designed to offer information and practical experiences to those students from both campuses interested in a career in Food Services. Students learn how to prepare food for, and serve, a large group of people. This includes the preparation of hors d' ourves, soups, main dishes, desserts, coffee cakes, and sweet rolls and how to cook and carve meats. The students learn how to manage a food service business by setting up their own restaurant, 26 Cafe' Corner. The restaurant has its own manager, Linda Carlson; treasurers, Adam Wohlbrandt and Rich Mc­ Millan: and head chef, Chuck Heinmiller. - ' During the year all the students learn the respon­ sibilities of all levels of food service, from the upkeep and use of commercial food machines to managerial skills.
