Even Vickie, recuperating from leg surgery, found those stairs intimidating. This ideal way to keep track of your health is free, every third Monday of the month. Dixon Secretary of State With approximately two months of winter remaining, we are resigned to facing the elements to the best of our ability. However, driving in bad weather causes tempers to become frayed and makes us short on patience. One of the most important things I can ask you to do is to be courteous behind the wheel, even under adverse conditions. Look out for the other guy and yield the right of way. When roads are snow packed and icy, and traffic is snarled or reduced to one lane of travel, please slow down and exercise caution. If you drive to work after a bad winter storm, double the amount of travel time so you can reach your destination safely. When travel is reduced to one lane, and single lines of cars are bumper to bumper, occasionally let a waiting car from a side street or parking space into the traffic flow. If this courtesy is extended to you, be sure to acknowledge it with a wave of your hand. As you approach an in tersection or an entrance ramp to an expressway, don't assume that city or state workers have been there with salt or cinders. If you slide into the rear of the vehicle in front of you, you are driving too fast for conditions. (A copy of the Rules of the Road will be sent to you upon request. Write to Alan J. Dixon, Secretary of State, Springfield, IL., 62756). The village hopes to do a better job of keeping roads clear at less cost with this new equipment. ACCIDENT Denise Godt i£ recovering from an auto accident Jan. 15, which resulted in head stitches and a broken leg. Icy streets were the cause, as Denise's brother drove her and Cindy Freeman to school. Cindy also had some s t i t c h e s . T h a n k f u l l y , everyone is recuperating. HOURSCHANGED The Lakemoor Public Works department and the office of the Village Clerk will now be closed at 4 p.m., weekdays and Wednesdays at noon. Vehicle stickers may be purchased any weekday morning after 7 a.m., and Monday evenings from 6 to 9p.m. After Mar. 1, a monthly penalty will be added to the cost of each sticker. . BIRD TIME Cardinals, juncoes, downy woodpeckers, sparrows, flickers, nuthatches and little black-capped chicka dees, are all enjoying our warm winter weather. A sad note-a mama cardinal lost her mate. A brilliant red crested bird was feeding in George Kaweli's bird feeder, when it flew off, straight into the glass of a picture window. It was with a heavy heart that George buried the beautiful bird. Our feeder is now being used by 2 chick-a-dees, 1 junco, 1 cardinal and 2 d o w n y w o o d p e c k e r s , simultaneously! What birds are giving you pleasure wl\ile eating at your feeder? The world is built on those who faithfully and u n g r u d g i n g l y a c c e p t t h e simple duties.
