The meeting was called to order by President Shirley Koch and the members united in the Pledge of Allegiance 4o our flag. The annual Spring Lun cheon and Card Party was discussed in detail,„as this is the major fund-raising source for the club. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, at St. Patrick's Church hall, 3500 W. Washington street, and serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. Committees were formed, and tickets will probably be available at the February meeting. Plans are also to be made for a pancake breakfast in the near future and possibly several similar breakfasts will be held during the year. The members expressed much enthusiasm and hope tp-jnake the activities very successful, as the project and goal for this year is to modernize and improve the Community House kitchen, which will be a big job, and quite expensive. Members were reminded that all dues were due and payable as of Jan. 1. It was announced that the annual general meeting of the Lakeland Park Property Owners association will be Sunday, Mar. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Community house. This is an important meeting and all L.P.P.O.A. members are urged to ahend. Also the L.P.P.O.A. i an nual dinner dance wilt be Saturday, Mar. l, at the American Legion hall. It will be a family style dinner, and tickets will be available from L.P.P.O.A. Board members. The meeting was busy and interesting and the ladies are looking forward to a very active year. x Marie Cross and Mary Schaan will serve as hostesses at the club meeting Thursday, Feb. 14 at 7:^M) p.m. at the Com munity House. All ladies in Lakeland Park and Lakeland Shores are invited and urged to attend and enjoy an evening of good fellowship. Local Church Women Group Join Others For Luncheon On Friday, Feb. 1, Church Women United will meet at the Bethany Lutheran church in Crystal Lake at noon and each participating church will provide part of a potluck meal. The First United Methodist church, McHenry, has been assigned to bring bar cookies; and members should arrive at the church with them by 11:45 a.m. The United Methodist Women's general meeting Thursday, Jan. 17 began with a potluck luncheon and the U.M.W. Mission Team Executive Committee were the hostesses. After the delicious lun cheon, the meeting was called to order by President Marilyn Haines. Bea Nuziard's meditations included "New Year Meditations" and "Rear View Mirror of Memories". They were very appropriate and interesting. A report was made regarding work being done in the kitchen as U.M.W. previously had agreed to* contribute to the cost of the cabinets, counter tops and so forth. Patricia Esposito con ducted the pledge service with Vivian Bassett, Norma Pieplow, Marlene Strohman and Marilyn Haines reading scripture passages. At the conclusion of the meeting and program, the ladies toured the new ad dition with Reverend Smith as a guide. The next U.M.W. general meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 21 at noon when the Priscilla Circle will hostess the pot-luck luncheon. Plan Easter Seal Dance Dancers throughout McHenry County will have, an opportunity to "Take that Extra Step for Easter Seals" and possibly win one of eleven top prizes at the upcoming Easter Seal- WXRD Dance-a-thon to be held at Woodstock high school in the commons area Feb. 9 and 10. All dancers must have a minimum of $3 per hour in pledges in order to register. However, the more money a dancer has in pledges, the greater that person's chances are for winning a top prize. In addition to the top eleven prizes, all par ticipants will be eligible to compete for hourly prizes. In the event that the dance marathon raises $15,000 or more, the top money-raiser will also win an all-expense paid trip to LosAngeles to , appear on the 1980 Easter Seal Telethon with an array of Hollywood stars. At last year's Dance-a- thon, dancers raised $32,094 in actual collections and was the second most successful of all Easter Seal Dance-a- thons, outdistanced only by huge LosAngeles which netted $35,000. It's very embarrassing for me. Sometimes I feel unbalanced in watting and stagger like an alcoholic. My iamily doctor had me on all types of drugs and finally advised that I be admitted* to the mental health unit of the hospital. I refused to do this. I know God can help me and that my condition is all in my ways of thinking. I need help with obtaining a positive method of thinking to control my body. A. You must find the reason for your acute nervous condition. A sense of guilt, rejection in childhood, an inferiority complex, to name just a few, can cause severe anxiety. You need professional help to understand and deal with these feelings. And I would certainly not depend on medication. Along with professional counseling, you can help yourself by changing your thinking. Ask God for His forgiveness, then believe He has granted this, and finally, forgive yourself. Also ask for Divine help in taking firm charge of your undisciplined emotions. As a sovereign individual, authoritatively command them, in God's name, to obey your rational control. The shaking, trembling, perspiring and staggering may be caused partly by drugs, but also can be the result of your out-of-control emotions. We are sending you our booklet, Overcoming Anxiety and Fear, which has been helpful to others. It is free to anyone who writes to us at Box 500, Pawling, N.Y., 12564. Disgusting and filthy Q. I would like to know what to do when you find your husband has quite a collection of pornographic magazines and films. I have tried to talk to him about it but he brushes me off and has even lied about it. These magazines are plain disgusting and fifthy. A. We certainly agree with your estimate of such magazines. Perhaps your husband has insistent physical desires that are not being met. It could be that you will need to reexamine your own responses. In addition you might try together to get interested, even absorbingly so, in sports, cultural matters, community or church activities. Work at being close, emotionally and physically. Don't ride your husband about his collection, and perhaps in time real life will be more enjoyable than his fantasies. Will God forgive? Q. I was taught that God will always forgive one who repents. However, recently I have heard that God will not forgive the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit Does this mean if someone, in a moment of anger, blasphemes and later repents, he cannot be forgiven? This bothers me very much.* A. You probably refer to the Bible verse which says, "But f he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation." I would not take this to mean a statement made quickly in anger but, rather, a basic attitude which never changes. If there is no desire to be forgiven, then of course there can be no forgiveness. But God's love is constant, and He is always ready to forgive. If there is something you would like to ask Dr. and Mrs. Peale. write to them at Box 500. Pawling, NY., 12564.
