The McHenry girls' basketball team split a pair of games in the Fox Valley conference. They lost a heartbreaker to Dundee 46- 44 and then defeated Crystal Lake South 55 to 40. The Johnsburg Skyhawks defeated the Marengo In­ dians 61-58 in overtime for the championship of the Shark conference. The victory assured Johnsburg of first place in the Shark conference and unless the Skyhawks are upset as they host North Boone the championship will belong to them exclusively. The Johnsburg Skyhawks defeated the North Boone Vikings 71-67 to become the 1979 champions of the Shark conference. The Skyhawks closed the regular season schedule with a 19-5 overall and 10-2 conference record. It was the first conference championship for the first year school and it was also the most successful won-loss record in McHenry county during regular season ac­ tion. The McHenry high boys' swimming team opened its 1979 season with two vic­ tories. They defeated Rolling Meadows 92 to 78 and beat Dundee 111 to 54. Before a Parents' night gathering, the McHenry High Warriors scored their highest total of the season as they romped over Cary Grove 80 to 64. The Johnsburg Skyhawks coasted to an easy 82-70 win over Ida Crown of Chicago in the first game of the Har­ vard Regional tournament. The Montini victories mark the first Rockford diocesan championship in the history of the school. Records in­ dicate that the last Catholic school from McHenry to claim the diocesan crown was approximately 20 years ago. Don Bentz, a senior, scored 30 points to lead the march to the sectional final. The McHenry high Warriors closed out their season with an overtime loss to Hononegah of Rockton, 64 to 60 in the Belvidere regional tournament. With starters, Tim Zeller and Len Jensen, both on the bench in the middle of the final period due to fouling out, the Warriors staged a rally and Bobby Zeller's twenty-footer with 21 seconds remaining, put the Warriors in Over­ time. Freshman Dirk Andreas, a graduate of Marian Central last year, is on the varsity baseball squad roster M Carthage college for the 1979 season. Andreas is listed on the roster as an outfielder, Johnsburg's dream season came to an end with a 74-50 loss to Oregon in the finals of thfe Class A sectional tour­ nament in Oregon.
