Fla. Taking five firsts and four seconds, the St. Charles "Saints" won the 14th annual McHenry Relays in Crystal Lake. The meet was changed from McHenry to Crystal Lake, because of weather conditions of the local track. The McHenry high frosh- Soph track team won an easy triangular iat Dundee when they scored 95 points. Pete Ritthaler and Mark Schiller each picked up two firsts for the local squad, as they completely dominated the meet. Johnsburg Skyhawk track star Jim Smith won all of his school's points in the men's division of the nine-team Jacobs high school prep invitational track meet. Smith, who captained Johnsburg's first cross country team last fall, took second place in the 300 meter run. Chris Dixon qualified in the semi-finals for the triple jump. In the women's division, Sue Moulis took first place in the 880 yard run. Cheri Kofler won third place in both the long jump and the 100 yard dash. The McHenry high tennis team won a big match when they defeated Crystal Lake Central by the score of 4 to 1. Scoring fifteen runs on twenty-three hits, the Warriors of Ken Swanson swept both games of a doubleheader at Woodstock by the scores of 4 to 2 and 11 to 4. Coach Mike Shanahan's McHenry High School "Water Warriors" won the first Fox Valley Conference swimming meet at West Campus. The Warriors had 98 points to runnerup Woodstock's 86. McHenry Varsity Softball team swept two conference victories, beating Crown 4-0 and Crystal Lake 7-0. The McHenry higlr sophomore baseball team won a .doubleheader over Woodstock by the scores of 13 to 3 and 7 to 1. In the nightcap Bobby Zeller en­ tered the school boy hall of fame, when he threw a no hitter against the Streaks. The Johnsburg varsity baseball squad crushed Round Lake 9-5 and swept a doubleheader against Winnebago 3-2 and 8-6 for a very successful weekend at the ball park. Led by Mark Vogt's three first place finishes the Warriors scored 77 points to Cary Grove's 58. A 4 run sixth inning enabled the McHenry Warriors to defeat Dundee 7 to 5 in a Fox Valley con­ ference game. After twenty-two years CoaCh Bill Day of the McHenry Warriors has decided to sit in the bleachers for football games. The veteran coach has spent the past twenty- two years prancing up and down the sidelines at football garner that he has coached in high school. Coach Day has submitted his resignation after twelve long years at the Warrior helm. McHenry high tennis team finished third in the Fox Valley conference meet held at Crystal Lake. Chris Nowell, senior hurler on McHenry high track team, is the Fox Valley conference champ in both the 110 and 330 meter hur­ dles. The McHenry Girls' Frosh-Soph team hit its way to two Fox Valley Con­ ference victories. The Warriors collected a grand total of 40 runs on 37 hits as they overpowered Cary Grove 18-7 and Crystal Lake Central 22-9. Sue Dixon picked up both pitching victories as McHenry moved to a 5-4 conference record. The McHenry Girls' Varisty softb&U team held off a last inning rally by Cary Grove and won 9-6. The victory was the Warrior's fourth win in eight Fox Valley conference games. Carrie Mortell and Diane Peterson, members of Don Seaton's McHenry high girls' track team, qualified rfor the state finals at Charleston. Carrie finished second in the^ 440 yd. dash, and Diane won the high jump with a jump at 5'4". The McHenry Girls" Varsity softball team was eliminated from the 1979 Illinois State High School Playoffs when they lost to Crystal Lake Central 10-7 in the sub-regionals. Johnsburg track ace Jim Smith won the Shark con­ ference championship in the two-mile run in the seven school meet held at Hononegah high school. Smith finished with a time of 10:29.2, just 10 seconds short of setting a new conference record. The McHenry frbsh-soph track team finished third in the Crystal Lake Invitation. The Warriors had 6 first place finishes along with meet winner Woodstock. Two Johnsburg high school track stars, freshman Cheri Kofler and sophomore Sue Moulis, broke Shark conference records in the annual Shark conference track meet at Hononegah. Terry Reilly, playing No. 1 singles, led his Valley City college team to a conference title. Terry finished second in the conference. The following week the same team won the Three State district title. Out of a field of forty^seven singles placers, Terry finished third. Terry and his doubles partner finished in first place in the Doubles Championship match. Andrew Oakley finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run at Ann Arbor, Mich., in the Big Ten Track and Field championships. Andy's time of 30:43.78 set a new Nor­ thwestern University school record for the 10,000 meter event. 138 Hilltop students par­ ticipated in the HPTP Junior Olympics held May 19. Students from first through fifth grade competed for first, second and third place ribbons in the dash, running long jump, softball throw, wheelbarrow race and the three-legged race, par­ ticipation certificates and ribbons were awarded to all students. JUNE The McHenry high baseball Warriors placed four men on the Fox Valley conference • team. The Warriors receiving the honors were seniors, Brett Thomas and Tim Frantz, along with juniors, Jim Frantz and Joe Bellich. Sophomore pitcher, Sue Haddick, and junior catcher, Terri Bohlman, of t|ie McHenry high girls' softball team were selected by the coaches for the Fox Valley All Conference team at Crystal JLake^ The Johnsmirg Skyhawks traveled to Beloit, Wis., to play the last game of the season. Beloit handed Johnsburg its fourteenth loss of the season, 10-9. McHenry high school doubles team of Tim Sabtka and Rich Sund defeated Ron Quee and Steve Wilkens of Chicago's Whitney Young, in the opening round of the state tennis meet at Arlington Heights.
