Helping Paws called her "lucky" because she was found abandoned by the roadside at Randall road and Miller in Lake In The Hills. She has been fortunate up to now because a foster home has been temporarily keeping her. However, there has been no response to the ads to find a new home that she can call her own. Lucky is a darling, well-behaved, medium to small size?dog (knee high) with semi-long hair, black and whtie, very good with children and pets, housebroken and has had shots. The foster home can no longer keep this dog and urges everyone to consider her adoption. The foster parents can be reached at 815-459-3716. Photo Credit: Don Kaiser By Kathleen Thayer Weather permitting, Helping Paws will hold the FORMAL WEAR RENTALS for ALL OCCASIONS 1214 N.Green St.McHenry first fund raising event of the new year at the Crystal Point mall Saturday, Feb. 23. The mall is offering space in the center to non-profit organizations for bazaars. HP will have four tables of pet related items for sale, as well as information packets on many subjects to help answer questions concerning HP and-or concerns about animal welfare. On Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lake in the Hills POA building, a meeting will be held to get area residents involved in the pet killing problem. The list of tortures include setting a cat on fire, castrating and letting a cat die slowly by the side of the road, illegally trapping in a residential area, hanging a neighbor's cat on a door knob, poisoning area dogs and placing a bear trap with an apple as bait in a local horse pasture and riding stable. If the trap had not been found in time, the pain inflicted upon the horse going for the apple would have been beyond belief. HP is going all out, with rewards, posters telling, of the meeting, and door-to- door canvassing of the area to see what information c&n be obtained. It is hoped that not only LITH people will care, but others will as well. Studies done by well- known behaviorists of the criminally sadistic, have proved beyond any point of argument, that the correlation between pet tortures by youngsters, will, and does in fact, lead to killings and-or tortures of humans as the child matures. This is clearly an illness and must be treated. Although the problem appears to be a concern just fa* pet owners, in reality it is not. Parents of youngsters who have this tendency should attend the meeting to learn how to spot the symptoms and where to seek help.
