After last weekend's double win the : Warriors are flying high these days. They played super i over the weekend, in defeating Jacobs and Hoffman i jij: Estates. Barry Anderson the :j:j best sixth man in the conference, seems to spark the jjj: Warriors when he arrives from the pines. The opposition will be no pushover. The Crown Vikings, j:j: winners of 9 of their last 11, boast the conference's top jjjj player. Gary Gliesman the 6'6" forward is all state j:j: caliber, and he has plenty of help from his teammates. It jij: should be a real game, and if you like school basketball, jij: you won't want to miss it. « - John Leighty will have his pep band as usual. They do a j:-j nice job of entertaining the crowd. And at half time if you jijj really want to see entertainment you just have to watch jij: the pom-pon squads in action. The frosh-soph, under the iiji leadership of Debbie Baldwin, perform between halves of jiji the soph-game. Coach Roger Dorio the Hoffman Estate coach who put jiji on quite a show last Saturday night, called Ken Ludwig •jjj and apologized for his behavior. I still can't condone his •jij actions apology or not. Marty Sobczak's "Rassling Warriors" also had quite a ijjj weekend. Three gruelling matches, and winners of two. jjj: Maybe the tide has turned for the popular coach, he along •jjj with all Warrior fans, sure wish him and his squad the •jjj best of luck the rest of the season. C. -- Though the Superbowl is the major football topic of mid- January, here's a glance backward at the college bowls. Two of the four major bowl games were thrillers- - Rose and Cotton. ', Alabama was too much for Arkansas in the Sugar and Oklahoma shackled FSU's passing game surpris ingly well. That Orange Bowl's halftime show was the best of the bowl shows. How good it was to hear some banjo nostalgia, even WahbT On The Robert E. Lee!" It was good to see Con federate flags-among Ala bama and FSU fans. So much detrimental about the Old South has spewed forth out of Hollywood and television. some fans and band leaders are intimidated, no longer wave the Stars and Bars, nor play Dixie. The Arkansas band played Battle Hymn Of The Republic! Cheerleaders from Ohio State and Southern Cal were the bowls' best dressed (and best-looking!). The bands of Arkansas, Alabama, South ern Cal, among others, were truly impressive. Of the minor bowls, perhaps the top thriller was Purdue and Ten nessee in the Bluebonnet, won by Purdue. North Carolina's surge past Michi gan in the Gator Bowl (really a fifth Major Bowl) was also a spine-tingler for fans. And after bowl play, should there be a more scientific playoff-which would have matched Ala bama and Southern Cal this year? College football prob ably shouldn't be taken that seriously.
