However, dedicated members of this group are continuing their customary practices. A group of women, headed by Bertilla Freund, make a trip to North Chicago Veteran's hospital the first Wednesday of eachjnonth. On a recent visit, generous donations .of cookies and fruit were provided and Bingo was played with candy as prizes. Oliva Clucas also provided entertainment on her Hawaiian guitar while the men sang. Mrs. Marino's hu&band is a patient at the hospital and she visits with him and helps the C.D.A. group serve. Clare Slegar was the driver and Annemarie Hellyer aided in keepings things in motion. A message from Father Tranel at ^the last gathering was that celebration is not necessarily a party thing. Referring to the penitential season of Advent, he said people celebrate the fact that God became man to save the world from sin. - With thoughts turned to what was celebrated so few weeks ago, everyone; is grateful for many of God's blessings. It is sincerely hoped that when the group renews acquaintences in March the efforts can be continued. Seniors Can Be Prepared The Boy Scout motto is 'Be Prepared'. Most people vow to plan ahead too, but put it off - until tomorrow. The Meet and Eat program for the McHenry County Senior Citizens' Council has prepared an emergency food box, called Sunshine Sup plies, to help the seniors 'Be Prepared'. Winter has not been as tough as expected yet, so many people have put off getting prepared and there are still Sunshine Supplies available at the center and the office. The value of the Sunshine Supply Boxes is two-fold. They contain meals for three days bought in bulk quan tities by the program at wholesale prices; then the commodity food money received by the program for each meal served to seniors is also substracted from the cost. This enables the program to ask only for a donation for the contents. The second value is the expanding difference bet ween the cost of the food in October (when it was pur chased) and the price of the same products today. No fixed price is asked for the boxes. Each senior shduld contribute what he or she can afford. The main concern is to get the boxes where they can serve the purpose for which they were prepared --to feed seniors during inclement weather or other emergenies. The Walk-in Center where Sunshine Supplies are available is located at the Moose lodge, 2816 W. Route 120, McHenry. The person to contact is Dorothy Loss, Site Manager, 653-5061.
