Sunnyside Area Betty Messer 344 2494 Discuss Rains The second meeting of the month for the village was held recently and although a quorum was not present to pass any measures, a number of upcoming items were discussed. Among them was a release from the Illinois Department of Transportation relative to conditions this time of year, Mayor Nolan reminded everyone of the possibility of Spring floods. While the probability and magnitude of Spring floods this year cannot be predicted at this time, under normal con ditions one can assume there will be some flooding in Illinois.- This columnist recalls the flooding in the McHenry area last spring. Since the village is par ticipating in the national Flood Insurance program, Nolan pointed out that flood insurance policies can be purchased from any in surance agent who sells property insurance. ' Flood insurance policies "cover all direct loss by flood, which is defined as a general, temporary con dition, of partial, or com plete, inundation of normally dry land areas. This definition includes the overflow, rapid ac cumulation, or runoff of surface water, such as a lake, river, stream, ditch, etc.; or high water tables that occur during, and are due to, surface flooding. Nolan informed those present that the policy offers l ow-cos t , f ede ra l ly - subsidized coverage against damaget>y flooding. A single family' dwelling can pur chase a $10,000 policy for a single family homeowner for $35 a year. This includes contents of the structure. Any building within the corporate limts can be in sured, whether or not it is in the flood plain. The mayor asks local residents to do three things. First, check the floodplain map available for everyone's use at the village clerk's office. This will tell them if they are in a flood prone area.
