Lakemoor-Lilymoor Area Margaret Karas 385-4934 Ladies' Night Need exercise and a Thursday evening out? Volleyball is enjoyed by a group of ladies every Thursday night from 7:45 to 10 p.m. at Hilltop school. Toni Yerkes reports that it is fun, the only requirement is tennis shoes and a small, charge is made for the use of the gym. Toni can be called at 385-2903 for more in formation. BAKESALE IS SUCCESS The bake sale held at the McHenry State Bank recently was a success, due to the help of many generous people. Mitzi Gurske did the planning, Sherill Weber the hauling, and Shirley Hayes and Betty Kmetz assisted. Our people can really bake up a storm. And isn't it nice that the bread cast upon the waters will not return as soggy bread, but for a healthy lake? ^ COMPANY 3 PARTY The annual dinner for our volunteer firemen and their wives or guests was held at a local restaurant Sunday, Feb. 17. This is the social event of the year for the firemen, which they deserve and receive through their own efforts. The dinner was delicious and friendships were deepened Del Douglas added to the festivities by making plaques for the firemen. He carved a likeness of each man with his helmet, out of pine. Company 3 firemen are a great group of volunteers, headed by Captain John Sulok. The work and dedication of these volun teers can never be recognized enough. New recruits have joined from Kent Acres. Others interested in being a part of a very necessary public service should contact Captain Sulok. LADIES LEAGUE The Lily Lake Ladies League met Wednesday night for their bi-monthly get together. The weather prevented the first meeting scheduled in February, so they really enjoyed visiting and playing Bunco. Mildred Nejedly won first prize. Sophie Paterson, that spry little lady who had her eighty-sixth birthday on George Washington's day, won second. Jean Dember came in last with the booby prize. This is such a warm, friendly group. Anyone wishing to have two happy evenings out a month, should call Helen Para, president, or any of the members for more information. LIBRARY ELECTION Trustees for the McHenry Nunda Library District Board will be voted on April 8. Anyone interested in being a candidate, may pick up the necessary forms • at the library located on Lily Lake road and Columbus drive. Fifty signatures are needed on the petition for each candidate. Call 385-6303 for more information. MUSIC CONTEST Parkland Junibr high school was among the schools whose band and chorus departments Were competing for points Saturday, Feb. 23. Harrison, at Wonder Lake, was the host school. Among those from our area who hfcd solos were Beth Baker on clarinet and Suzy Wipper on snare drums. The competition was rated on points earned rather than competing against schools. Our Junior high people at Parkland did their best, , which is all that is asked for of anyone. VAN PICKUP Alyce Kowal called to remind seniors who need a ride on Wednesdays to the Meet-and-Eat center at the Mobse lodge, to call Woodstock no later than Monday. The number for the Council office is 1-800-892- 6120. A small charge is made for a one-way trip to the center, and the van comes to your door. MISTAKE Have you split an infinitive lately? Back to the grammar books for me, per one of the Plaindealer readers. Ms. Anonymous Caller said one should never make such a drastic error. My apology for inaccurate English, and also an apology to Dale Rasmussen, who will have to go fishing with a whole in finitive after this. GET WELLS Mildred Narcarti has been undergoing tests in Evan- ston; Marie Hyatt has been staying in, nursing a bad cold and Marguerite Nettles just had bruises after an automobile accident Feb. 12. Winter is almost over, so get well in time to enjoy the awakening of the trees and plants. WELCOME, BABY Anthony John Schiavone made his entry into this world Feb. 14. He was born at St. Therese hospital, weighing 8 lbs., 5 oz., the son of Brenda and John Schiavone. Anthony John's prdud paternal grandmother is Dolores Schiavone, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fan ning of Wauconda are the maternal, grandparents. The Schiavone's are now home with their first baby, and so another generation is begun. May Anthony John be a blessing and a joy to his familyi s BIRTHDAY TIME Feb. 27 is happiness day for Nancy Eggert, teen Gary Yerkes, and Alyce Kowal, the dear lady who has given so much of her time to make the lives of veterans in the V.A. hospital a little easier and less pain-filled. Alyce keeps busy as a local representative of the "Calling" sales, and serves as a judge at elections. .* Angelique Betancourt, sister of some wrestlers at McHenry high school, celebrates her birthday March 1, as does Betsy Lillie. March 2 belongs to Louise Hipwell, the lady with the magical fingers, who turns yarn and thread into beautiful tablecloths, afghans and bedspreads. Her talents are also shown in the poetry she writes, some of which has been printed in the Plaindealer. As president of the McHenry Nunda Library Board, she has spearheaded the purchase of property for a permanent library. She has also been helpful with the L.L.C.C.I. by aiding Save the Lake projects. March 3 is the date marking Helen Povidas' birth. A time of unexpected pleasure is wished for all with special days this week.
