The reason seems to be because three men armed with shotguns and revolvers leaped upon Edward Tessendorf, in his barn on the old Andrew Peterson farm one mile and a half northeast of Ridgefield, blindfolded him and led him to his house where they tied him to his bed together with his wife. The reason for this resulted from the finding of a gleaming stone as big as a fiat in a ditch on the Tessendorf property. News of the discovery spread and the value of the stone mounted until gossip placed it at $40,000. The robbers must have been sadly disappointed when they found the actual value was probably about $300: Members of Riverview camp R.N.A., will celebrate the nineteenth anniversary of the camp at their next meeting. The St. Patrick's grade school basketball team travelled to Sterling to play in the diocesan finals and lost a heart breaker to St. Mary's of Sterling. The score was 44 to 35. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 6, 1970) Concern over the use of a building on John street, owned by McHenry Country club, for storage of golf carts brought a protest from the City Council. The building, it was reported, has been used for storage of equipment such as mowers. The second story of the building is used as a residential unit. Residents of Allen avenue contend that the reported 40 golf carts, added to the expected parking of automobiles on the lot, would be objectionable and tend to depreciate the value of their property. City officials went on record as looking with disfavor on the golf cart plan and will attempt to resolve the problem in a reasonable manner.
