STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Woodstock Regional Rally Puts Warriors In Finals by Dick Rabbitt A fourth quarter rally enabled the McHenry high Warriors to defeat the Woodstock Blue Streaks 62- 57 to advance to the finals of the Woodstock Regional tonight. The Warriors meet Belvidere a 60 to 45 winner over Hononegah on Tuesday night. In the Wednesday night game the Warriors started out like a house on fire with Len Jensen leading the pack the Warriors built up a 8 to 4 margin with 4:30 remaining. Then forcing the Streaks into numerous turnovers, the Warriors spurted to a 10 pt bulge 18 to 8 at the end of the period. It was at this time that Warrior fans thought that the local crew would literally blow the Streaks out of their own gym. After Bob Greve's basket gave the Warriors a 20 to 8 margin, two quick baskets by the Streaks, and then Johnson's basket along with a pair of charity tosses by Anderson and the Warriors led 24 to 14 with 3:30 remaining. Then the bubble burst. With the Warriors fouling, and the Streaks making the free throws, the home five scored 12 unanswered points to lead at the intermission 26 to 24. It was a complete tur naround for the Warriors in the second period. Not committing a turnover during the first period, the Warriors were guilty of six in the second, plus numerous fouls, that the Streaks capitalized upon. Action picked up a bit during the third period, as the Warriors tried to overtake the Streaks, but the Streaks held on, until with 1:15 remaining Bob Zeller completed a three point play to give the Warriors a 39 to 38 lead. Leahy's basket with 17 seconds remaining gave the Streaks the lead once again 40 to 39 and that was the way the period ended. In the final period the teams exchanged baskets until 4:37 Jim Johnson's bucket once again gave the Warriors a 46 to 45 margin. The lead then exchanged hands until Len Jensen hit a nice 12 footer, and seconds later made the first of two free throws to put the Warriors ahead 55 to 53. Exciting Finish The final forty seconds saw the fans on both sides of the court up on their feet. Jensen made a free throw with 0.39 remaining to put the Warriors in front by three, 56 to 53. Dethelson countered for the Streaks, and at 0:29 Jensen left the game with 5 fouls. Zeller had already fouled out of the whistle tooting game earlier in the period. Bob Greve then became the hero as the young junior sank two free throws at 0:26 to put the Warriors ahead 58 to 55. Ten seconds with the Warriors in control of the ball, Greve was fouled, and with the Woodstock crowd hooting and screaming, calmly sunk two more to put the Warriors up by 5,60 to 55. After Ritzert made a basket, Anderson was fouled at the buzzer, and while the crowd was streaming out of the gym, made the two charity tosses to give the Warriors the victory 62 to 57. It was a joyous Warrior crowd who emptied the gym on Wednesday night. The Warriors showed some moxie, when they came back from a deficit to win. The victory was sweet, because of the one point loss to the Streaks several weeks ago. The Warriors were in foul trouble all night. The Streaks took advantage making 25 of 29 from the line. The Warriors were not too bad either, making 16 of 22.
