STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Dixon Schoenig Zimbrick Named All-Conference By Randy Swikle Three Johnsburg Skyhawk stars, Chris Dixon, Tom Schoenig and Brett Zim brick, were named to the Shark Conference All-Star team in balloting by the conference coaches. The three high school basketball standouts were named to the second team during the voting which occurred last week. Dixon was a team leader and played the point position for the Skyhawks. he was an outstanding defensive player and was generally given the toughest opponents to guard during games. On offense he was the third leading scorer for Johnsburg. Schoenig was the team's center and the power to be reckoned with under the boards. He had one of the highest shooting per centages on the squad, and he was the second leading scorer. Zimbrick was Johnsburg's "super-guard" and the leading scorer on the Skyhawk club. He was an excellent ball handler, and he had a very effective jump shot. Zimbrick was one of the quickest ball players in the conference. ALREADY ACCLAIMED AS THE NEXT GREAT CENTER... HE HAD GIVEN CONSIDERATION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. BASEBALL * * * By Pete Fritchie TAMPA, FLA. -- Spring training exhibition games this year extend over one month, from March 8 to April 8. The exhibition season in Florida opens March 8 in Orlando, where the Twins host Detroit. Minnesota also plays on the last day-at Winter Haven against the Red Sox. How important are spring games? They can tell a man ager much about his players, but can also be misleading. On balance, year in and year out, they more often prove prophetic than otherwise. Teams with heavy home exhibition schedules this year are Detroit at Lakeland, Texas at Pompano Beach, Chicago at Sarasota, Kansas City at Fort Myers, Boston at Winter Haven, New York (Yankees) at Fort Lauderdale -all of whom have fourteen or more home games. The Pirates, at Braden- ton, won't play the Orioles at home or in Miami, so if these two clubs don't meet again in the world series, they won't play this year. Most exhibi tion games are day games, starting at 1:30 p.m. though there are some 8 p.m. night games. In recent years, many spring games have been sold out, usually those between the top contenders. And some clubs draw especially well in certain areas--the Tigers on the west coast of Florida, the Yankees every where, the Red Sox, Reds and O's. The Dodgers--at Vero Beach--and the Phils (Clearwater) and Cards at St. Petersburg, also draw well. Pitchers began working out on the weekend of the 23rd. Most full squads report about March 1. Little children are still the symbol of the eternal marriage between love and duty. -George Eliot.
