The McHenry County Sheriff's posse is a volunteer group of equestrians formed in 1974, whose purposes are: to promote citizen in volvement in local govern ment, to pwtfuote good will between thqpfizens and the McHenry County Sheriff's department and to provide a mounted auxiliary police force available for use by the sheriff. ^ The posse is divider into two units; Division I, which is the search and rescue service unit, and Division II, which is the parade group. Each division requires both horse and rider to pass a rigorous training schedule in order to qualify as a member of the posse, and many of the members participate in both divisions. On several occasions since the posse's inception, Division I has been called out to participate in e m e r g e n c y s e a r c h operations in conjunction with the Sheriff's police. On each such occasion the performance of the posse has been characterized as highly professional and well organized. This type of performance is the direct result of attendance by the members at the six practice sessions held each summer where techniques in search and rescue are practiced. The posse rides and performs in six to eight parades each year and has filled a rather large trophy case in the courthouse with awards won at these events. At the County fair each year, mounted members of Division I patrol the parking lots and help maintain 4$rder at the grandstand shows. These members have been commended by both Sheriff LaMagdeleine" and E m e r g e n c y S e r v i c e s director John Shay. Anyone interested in participating in these ac tivities should call 385-6255, or 385-2842. YOUNG AT HEART PRESIDENT DIES It was a sad moment for many Wonder Lake residents when they received the news that Bjferie Robinson passed away in Memorial hospital Friday, March 7 This was a very energetic lady who touched the hearts of all who knew her in a special way. I always knew when the phone started to -ring-on-a- Wednesday afternoon, that it would be Marie telling me all the details of the Young at Heart meeting. She definitely typified the name of the club which she presided over for so many years. Marie would have celebrated her eightieth birthday Wednesday, March 26. WOMAN'S CLUB TO MEET Members and guests of the Woman's club of Wonder Lake will meet Thursday, March 20 at 8 p.m. in Nativity Church hall. AFS students, who are attending our local high schools from foreign countries will be giving the program for the evening. Mrs. Ruth Kolar of the Transportation department was also very helpful. One of the main com plaints was having the Junior high and high school students riding the same bus in the Highland Shores- Sunrise Ridge area.
