DIXON Secretary of State Daylight savings time will not be in effect for a few more weeks. If you think that there is not sufficient daylight to see other cars ahead of or behind you, or if weather conditions dictate, turn on your car's lights. According to Illinois law, you are required to have your lights on between sunset and sunrise, but on a dark, rainy or foggy day, you will be safer to turn them on, regardless of the time of day. It will help the drivers of other cars to see you. If you are not readily visible to approaching drivers, the potential of danger to yourself and others is dramatically in creased. An approaching vehicle may turn in front of you, stop directly in your path, or move into your traffic lane when attempting to avoid something on the road. Make sure your lights are on when visibility is poor. Using them could save a life. (A copy of the Rules of the Road will be sent to you upon request. Write to Alan J. Dixon, Secretary of State, Springfield, 111., 62756.)
