PACK 4 PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MARCH 21,1960 College Seeks Administrative McHenry County college will advertise for applicants to serve as the college's dean of administrative services and treasurer, the MCC board of trustees decided Thursday. The board approved seeking applicants for the post after an executive session to discuss personnel. The combined post has been vacant since Richard Peters left the college in November for a post in California By deciding to fill the post, the trustees abandoned an interim organizational structure which had divided the duties of the treasurer and the dean of ad ministrative services among two other MCC ad ministrators. In other action the MCC trustees endorsed the idea of allowing a private company to install infra-red heating in one bay of the college greenhouse in exchange for information on the energy use and cost efficiency of the system. Trustee Barbara Pautz told the board that the offer by Central Infra-red Systems Inc. of Orland Park had been considered by the MCC Energy Task force, but she said the board needed to decide whether it would aliow the manufacturer to use the college's name in advertising in exchange for use of the infra-red system"f Ms. Pautz also reported the task force is surveying MCC employees to get their input on a proposed four-day work week this summer. She said the college would seek bids on weatherstripping and realigning the outside doors to eliminate heat loss. Ms. Pautz noted that the college may compete for federal grant money for its energy conserva t ion projects including the greenhouse hea t ing demonstration project. The board voted to petition the City of Crystal Lake and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) to have the MCC campus served by Dial- a-Ride bus service. The trustees delayed consideration of any ad ditional construction at the To Fill Posts college until after the April 12 MCC board election. During a discussion of, z ero -based budge t ing . Trustee Herbert Lutter reaffirmed his stand that the college should make, greater use of contingency accounts in its budget to keep discretionary spending under the direct control of the board of trustees. MCC Acting President Robert Nartlett told the trustees that the budget procedure was too far along this year to change to a new format, but he said many of the concepts of the zero- based budget idea have been incorporated into the college's budget process already. Trustee Pautz endorsed a letter from Fox and Company, an accounting firm, which suggested that MCC should first implement zero -based budge t ing techniques in one or two marg ina l depar tments before adopting the system for the entire college budget. In other action at the March 13 meeting the trustees: . ..reaffirmed a policy of allowing senior citizens age 60 or older to pay reduced tuition charges for regular credit and general studies courses. ....learned that the Dental Assisting program will be added to the cooperative agreement .jurith Elgin Community college in the fall. ....learned that the salaries of administrators and ' the college's --A ~ re pi uicsoiuiloA suppui i atmi have been decreasing as a percentage of the total educational fund budgets since 1977. ....noted that the college is pursuing collecting bad debts including student loan defaults and other bills totalling more than $5,000. The next meeting of the board will be at 7:30 p.m. March 27 in Room 249 of the MCC Main hall building. Wherever there is a human being there is a chance for a kindness. -Seneca. They were dressed in gay red and white capes and caps and like most members of the younger set, have they got rhythm! Mounting - the stand, Paul Yanda con ducted the high school or chestra through five delightful numbers.
